So warm moist towels draped over it. And you can buy a "soft tray" which is supposed to help with humidity along with a underneath heat pad to warm the moist soil. On this Link it talks about reptariums (below) read about it. automatic misters could help. Live plants help too keeping them watered and the pots hold moisture. Also water dragons need a pool to swim in and if it is dry for them they knwo how to get moisture. A lot of misting helps too. One thing you can do is maybe get some plywood type of sheets and cover three sides with that (you dont want a lot of plexiglass or glass because it can give him nose damage. |

I got my cage from www.bigappleherp.com because their prices seemed to be the cheapest, they have fast shipping, and their site looks professional. What I bought was a 65 gallon reptarium and it was about $30 to $35 (prices vary). I also bought the long style $15 soft tray for use in the bottom of the cage since Rocky likes to splash around a lot. In the photos I have some cheap $5 plants from Home Depot in $5 self-watering pots that cannot be tipped over. There’s also a cheapo walmart kitten litter bin for a water bin ($3), small filter ($15), and some hammocks and vines. Above the cage is a mercury vapor bulb. You’re still looking at an initial investment of at least $160 although I ended up spending close to $300 because of all the cage accessories, lamp stand, dome fixture, and such. The water dragon itself is a separate expense. The goal of this enclosure was to be portable and cheap was not on my mind. I picked the reptarium since it’s easy to break down, clean, and transport since I take my water dragon and bearded dragon with me when I move to college. In fact, I’ll be breaking down the setup in less than a week and a half now to transfer it an hour away. Unfortunately, the cage does not currently look the same as it does in those photos. I’ll see if I can get a new picture tomorrow. I lost the plant with the big wide leaves since Rocky shredded it and it got a disease. I also switched out the green felt to paper towel temporarily under the vet’s advice (was checking for mites but none found). More rocks from my backyard and shells from the ocean were also added in the water bin. This cage is not big enough for an adult water dragon and is planned to be retired at the end of this year or early next year when I convert a used armoire (or similar) into a cage. |

ps. this was built a few years ago by my mother and me for a bat that I had, yes I said bat, it was a Mexican Free-Tailed bat. He flew into our barn and I guess meet the ceiling fan and it messed his wing up pretty bad he lived for a couple months then passed away, I dunno from what, I couldnt take him to the vet because I called them all ahead of time and they said if I brought it in they would uthinize it, but they gave me some tips to help it. He was a fun pet, you wouldnt believe how soft it was, it never tried to bite me either, also they naturally have a fruity smell...he smelled so good, better than me most the time, lol.

And today we bought a new water feature (pics coming soon) lol its an actual pond so its kinda cool. Thinking about how to make a waterfall type of thing for it. Thinking about going with the same thing Jacki did but not sure yet. Will have pics as soon as it gets done and actually looks nice :P |
