Why 20 gallons are uro killers .

there is also some concernes about this type of setup. Although it is a temporary enclosure the Uro still needs uvb to maitain calcium levels and in a small tank like this you may not be able toadd another bulb without overheating. I assume you use a d3 product for the time being, however this can be unsafe for the average keeper and even some advanced keepers as d3 can become toxic at high levels. it is also synthetic and does not absorb well and can throw their entire body out of "wack" if youyr not careful. I also have a huge issue with the lux/brightness of the enclosure. I am a believer of VERY bright light to be beneficial and in the dark enclosure such as the one you showed us the Uro may get depressed, not be able to see properly, may have appetite issues etc..

I also am a firm believer of full spectrum to them (not us) as most reptiles see much differently then us. Basically with the one halogen in there makes it very dark, blurry, and colors are not true, things look very unatural as compared to sunlight or the great combo lighting that I and others use. good evenly combined combo lighting I believe to have many phychological benefits

here are some great video’s you should watch about the combo lighting I use. It’s a good friend of mine his name is Jimmy and you would also be interested in his Iguana video’s as I know you have kept them before.

UROKEEPER,

jbreddawg replied to one of my posts and his comment was absolutely correct. I need to pay attention to my audience.

When I read these posts I often fail to consider the differences between my situation and the situation of others. I’m potentially raising up multiple monitor hatchlings or young uros at any given time. These are sold or put in large enclosures after getting a good start.

I’m a huge advocate of over-sized enclosures.

I don’t think any enclosure for a captive uromastyx is oversized. Large maybe but never oversized. wouldn’t it be nice to have an acre for a pair or trio? that would be amazing. or a huge climate controlled shed/barn for them.

I don’t normally like to participate in uro bashing sessions but I have one that is too close to home not to mention (8 miles away).

This is a Uromastyx, best known as a Spiny-tailed lizard. If you are not familiar with a Uromastyx they are the crowd favorite. Very friendly and loves to play with other pets and people. He is very active and loves to explore. Uromastyx are great pets to have, especially for children because they are so easy to maintain. He comes with a home that includes a 20 gallon tank, climbing log, sand, rocks, a green plant, heating lamp, ultra violet light, water and food dishes.

I wish I had the time/money/support to help it but I don’t. Some people really do no research when they buy a pet.

I sent an email to the guy to try and get him to put proper care instructions. Who knows if it will make any difference though.
