 OT for cinderella (turtle question:)

What do you want to know about diamond back terrapins?
They are beautiful. Live wild here but are rare and illegal to be sold or traded, but your allowed to wc and keep up to two...(which I dont agree with) which is only reason I dont have one.

 OT for cinderella (turtle question:)

I had seen them in pictures and thought how absolutely beautiful they were. I had no idea they were a native species, till I did a little research. Like an impulsive kid, I had to have one (or two), but for now, just the one! I bought her a horse trough, as tanks don’t seem practical to me.

I’m busy getting her set up but here’s a pic.
I also got a little CA wood turtle:) He’s sooo sweet.
I’ll post more pics, but first things first. Got to get them situated.

Here’s the diamondback Terrapin female for now.

Awesome!!!!! Look forward to more pics.
DBTs spend most of there time in water. Actually Ive always seen in the rivers sorta far from land.

Congrats on CA wood as well.

Im having a bit of trouble with my 2 permanent rehabs. My chicken turtle and CA wood have a flair up of SCUD from a fungal infection. Chicken turtle had bad when I got her in October, it had cleared 100% before I let the 2 share a pond, but now both show signs. (Stupid me, fed them shrimp once again 2 weeks ago, wonder if that encouraged it) ANyway I was all out of meds so just ordered more silverdene cream and this time gonna also treat with Acriflavine (fish meds). Wish these 2 luck.

Chicken turtle has only half a jaw, apparently due to a fishing hook injury, and CA wood came from a petstore that took in after long improper care, so she’s also had shell problems and half her nose(nostrils) was gnawed off. They are my handicapped kids...almost handicapped.

Good luck with your rehabs!

I got my terrapin set up outdoors, but I can’t relax. I keep going to check on her. I’m sure she’s happier out there, where she can swim laps and get some sun! I put the little wood turtle outside too, but bring him in at night. He’s too little and too many critters!

Here’s a quick vid of the two of them.

Thanks! The terrapin is a female, they get a good bit bigger than males. I agree, she is rather lovely:)

The wood turtle is getting set up with a bigger water source, as he also seems to love it. His fav food so far, is earthworms. but I’m trying diff bugs and greens too. He’s got some funny antics about him, but surprising to see him be so predatory!
