What really scrolls my nerd is you have a couple people with limited experience with monitors (only having one species) and a hand full more with none what so ever correcting and criticizing the methods and practices of keepers of multiple species and/or far more experience. Even with things toned down, there’s still digs from Ig. owners about housing multiple monitors together and statements like "top authorities say blah, blah". Just my two cents...or lack of sense. Yes, and take into consideration the husbandry practices of that particular individual and how that is likely a huge factor when it comes to the docility of his animal. My niles wile climb right up me the same way but about twenty times faster leaving me with nasty scratches, more like lacerations hahaha. Another difference is my niles shoot first and ask questions later when it comes to hands near the head;). |

Hahahaha!!!!!!!! Then what the heck are you doing over here pal? You seem to be full of foolish contradictions. As a subscribed member of HC I imagine you must be a bit sore over the warning from an administrator of your precious site for your blatant disregard for the forum rules, ignorance and outright rudeness. Here’s an idea; how about you invite your pals from over there to this site and we can have a real discussion on common ground where nobody has to operate under any false pretense of "politeness". This way we can all speak frankly about our own practices as well as state our opinions of the practices of others without being banned. The thread topic could read something like "Advanced husbandry 101" |

Now you want to talk about me being rude if yo remember I posted pictures of my monitors and was asked how where they to handle and I said I do not hold them and you guys attacked me I tried to help the girl with the savanna and again was attacked.So I started a thread about handling and once again I WAS attacked.You offered up no discussion on anything just I was wrong and you where right that was it . Some people showed up with REAL EXPERINCE things started to settle down except any time some one disagreed with you.You decided if we don’t agree with you,your not going to play anymore and that didn’t work so you told your mom on us I expect that out of my six year old not a grown man greg |

HC isn’t like other forums. It is more family oriented than what most people are accustomed to when dealing with forums. That is why my staff and I run the site the way we do. The rules will be followed or we simply remove users. That’s why more than 80% of HC’s users are adults or mature teens. The average kid wouldn’t last on HC. The monitor forums on HC have always been slow. Dave has been in and out for some time, but there has always been very little activity. Without a larger group of users sharing their own experiences, the information would be restricted to come from those who did own them and those who thought they had the answers. When some of you came over and started posting, you got your message lost in the way you posted. Being rude and belligerent (this doesn’t pertain to all of you. Just a select few.) doesn’t earn you respect. It doesn’t make people want to listen to you. It makes you look like a punk and makes me want to delete you. Norf was a great example of that. Posting like that certainly doesn’t leave a good impression of this site and the users coming over. There were a handful of users who had no experience with monitors who clashed with some of the members of this site. Some of that had to do with the initial postings of Norf and even the post Roger left up before I banned him. Then the thread over here that called some of them out by name didn’t do much justice for respectability either. Some of those users took it personal and kept the arguing going. MOST of them have chatted with me and have walked away and some even toned down and started participating in the discussions. Some have said that HC did a 360 when you came over. All you actually saw was the staff handling those users who were still pushing the envelope with how they were posting. Once everyone had a chance to calm down over the initial BS that went on, HC started going back to how HC typically is. I didn’t just send warnings out to those users from this site who were getting mixed up in the nonsense. I sent it to the existing users who were also mixed up in it. I am all for the new activity within the monitor forums. The only thing I am hoping for is that the undertones of the posting remain like this thread: http://www.herp center.com/monitors/24762-what-makes-quality-enclosure.html (Remove the space) That thread has loads of info, different opinions, and yet I haven’t had to ban anyone as a result of it. lol More people will be able to learn from threads like that than those where everyone is acting like a fool. |

Why wouldn’t I show my face on this site? I am fairly confident that the users who are members of both sites would agree that I am a fair person in how I have handled things. They didn’t see me in the threads pretending to have the answers. I don’t keep monitors. I don’t feel I am in a position to teach about monitors since my knowledge is limited. I did get into that chat with you via the profiles over your lighting though. I wasn’t alone in my opinion though it seems. Dave posted in your lighting thread: "Norf, those lights do look awfully close to the monitor - it wouldn’t take much for it to lift its head and get a burn. I’d replace those bulbs with halogens and raise the whole set-up." Seems he and I think a great deal alike. You even stated you thought about it, but then changed your mind. Go figure. ;) I only had to remove 2 users over this mess. The rest of the group is still posting away. In fact, there is a great thread going that I linked in my preceeding post. I have no reason NOT to post here Norf. If you think I am afraid of a little bashing, well you clearly don’t know me very well. lol |

I participate in these fora to learn and share my experience not to socialize or make friends. I am honest and generally call things the way I see them for good reason; because to me this is about the animals, not my own, or anyone elses egos, status points or any of those types of things. These fora have been a great source of learning for me and I simply feel an obligated to give back. On the thread you banned me on, I simply became frustrated at being told basically that I was lying about my own associations with other keepers along with my own experiences with keeping varanids by someone who has no clue of who I am or what I am about. I can spot BS a mile away and have no problem calling it. There are people lurking these fora, putting what they read on them to use with the assumption that the people handing out the info are legit and have actual experience with the advice they are giving out. Handing out second hand, caresheet and off the shelf monitor husbandry book info can many times do more harm than good. The people passing this type of advice out may have the best intentions in the world and actually think they are helping when, without knowing it, they are actually doing more harm than good. That’s what I saw when I revisited the monitor forum on your site so I opted to enter into the discussion. Please do not take offense at my comments Rich. Those who know me know that I am perhaps a bit rough around the edges and even obnoxious at times, heh, heh. Thanks for posting over here. Roger |
