they eat eachother in the wild, its called natural selection/ survival of the fittest. the way i see things what happens happens you cant change what could have been you can only change the present so the past doesnt reoccur. and we did but he was taken out of his cage and he got away. even tho we tried to prevent the past from happening again it did, only differently. maybe it was supposed to happen who knows. but I’m going to his house tomorrow and im going to look for him myself. who knows maybe he didnt look hard enough. |

Green Iguana—The Ultimate Owner’s Manual. It has a lot of good information in it. I honestly think iguanas make the worst pets though. I wouldn’t buy one ever. I adopted mine because she was abused. If you want another one please read that book and adopt one. |

Last time I checked Bearded Dragons lived in Austrailia and Iguana’s lived in South America..... So im pretty sure they don’t eat each other in the wild..... While you’re at the SPCA you should tell them your history with reptiles and see what the chances are that they’ll give you another one |

Now I am not being mean here but I am going to be honest here. Do not get another iguana, or bearded dragon, or any reptile until you do the research. Get the book that was recommended, it is really good, and it has a lot of information. Start with something easier like an anole or a hermit crab. Next, considering your boyfriend has lost/killed your previous reptiles, why would you let him take care of another? He obviously knows nothing about reptile care either. OK? These are living animals that deserve the proper care and love that a dog, cat, or even a child would require. They’re not for everyone. And they don’t deserve the sad a pathetic lives the pet trade has given them due to over breeding, cheap selling, of animals to unexperienced owners. They get big. They live a long time, mine is almost 17, probably older than you. They get aggressive during breeding season, especially males. They throw child-like fits and temper tantrams. Your arms will be mangled just from holding a large one considering their claws are so sharp. They need huge spacious enclosures. Their diets are very strict. The list goes on and on. In conclusion, take what you are hearing as advice, not insults. The people her are passionate and we get defensive when we hear about retiles who are improperly cared for. We try to help but the way you are coming off is making many of us very impatient. Best of luck in the future. |

We got our hatchling Iguana in August 08. My son (9 at the time) was telling my boyfriend he wanted a reptile and my boyfriend told him he should get an iguana. I told my son that I wanted to read up on them before we got one. Well not much later than that I got out of the shower and my boyfriend had already called the pet store to ask if they had iguanas and they were out the door. I was in shocked so I jumped in the car with him. We bought the enclosure there 10 gal tank with the lighting and the calcium with d3. They gave us a care sheet which it only said to feed it iceberg lettuce, spot clean its enclosure and clean it thoroughly once a month. So we took it home and we had plans that evening. The next day I jumped on line and started doing research. I seriously must have spent about over 5 hours on line reading about its diet and enclosure. I was stunned. After that I spent every chance I got reading up. I am by far an iguana expert. I still learn every day more and more about this iguana that I have falling in love with. I love animals but don’t have any because I am allergic to cats and dogs (all furry animals). And I would have to say if I knew all the time, dedication that goes into raising a happy/healthy iguana I probably would have reconsidered it. I am single mom and work full time and my son and I have a very busy schedule. By saying so it does not mean I don’t love my iguana. I’m just being realistic. But our iguana is in our life now so I am always striving to be a better more educated owner and I have really had to change scheduling around to accommodate our iguana’s needs. Colasaurs is right, it is like having another child. And man oh man do your arms get mangled. I haven’t even experienced the breeding season but I am trying to do my research on that so that I can as best prepared as possible. I actually think I am very lucky. My iguana is very loveable and there are times when he/she doesn’t want to be touched. I do let my iguana free roam (as soon as I get home from work) but every room that isn’t iguana proof is closed off when he/she is out. I come on this forum and constantly read the information given and take it to heart because these people on this forum are knowledge and care immensely about their iguana(s). One lady on this forum put things into perspective for me (I was only reading the thread). She stated (and this isn’t word for word) but she said the people on here care more about your iguana than hurting your feelings; which is true they are not going to skate around your feelings they will be up front and honest with you. Why would you want it any other way. I would really take the advice of everyone on this thread and become educated before getting another reptile. You might just decide an iguana is not for you. |

I would like to apologize for what I have said and for ruining my friends User Name {lilprincess1026}. She {Molly} had asked me {Liz} to post about Prince so that she could introduce him and herself and also to get more information about them to help her on her quest, and I decided to stupidly add in my old guys and tell the story about my Iguanas and I fused her story with my story and made it sound like it was coming from one person. it all got crazy. She only ever had Prince, her boyfriend had the 5yr old iguana named Spaz, and I baby sat him at my house and didn’t have the proper set up for him and he was allowed in the room with my baby iguanas {another stupid idea} and he got into the gage and ate them. Corkey the one with the mites was also mine. The two bearded dragons are really her boyfriend’s and his brother’s, I have no affiliation with them. Prince did get out and I found out today that the 1 yr old Bearded Dragon didn’t eat him, that her boyfriend’s oldest brother found it under the kitchen table. And put it back and then Prince got out of the cage. I’m extremely sorry that I have ruined her User Name. She is an animal person, she loves them and she tries to do good for them. if there is anyone who should be attacked its me. Liz |

Quote: I asked what they needed because i thougth i had it right, but then it died so i asked what your supposed to do to see if i did anything wrong.
It wasnt my choice to get the hatchling i wanted an older one because i know that baby lizards could be very tricky, but some guy one of my friends knows was neglecting his hatchling so my friend bought it off of him to try to save it and gave him to me and my boyfriend and put him in a 15 gal tank with a light and all and it died." then you said Quote: "Maybe it died then due to the other owner neglecting him, poor baby :( Also though, even for a hatchling I would not use a 15 gallon as you wouldn’t beable to achieve proper temp gradients and may overheat him, which can kill a beardie"
I can see that my friend’s appology wasnt enough for yous. a.) that baby bearded dragon was malnourished when i got him and we had a low wattage lamp on him (60w) because we didnt want him to die and i had a vet appointment for the next day, but he died over night. so thats my fault too? I dont understand why I shouldnt be allowed to own iguanas or any reptile, when I just started out with prince who is my first one. its not my fault that everything people told me was wrong, no one ever told me about UVB rays untill i got here. he was in a 15 gal because it was a holding tank, i was supposed to get this big tank -i think its a 40 and its got an attachment on the top to make it taller i think 3 or 4 feet tall.- from my friend and he was gonna be in that untill i made him his custom tank -next week-. I had her post here like she said to introduce Prince and Me and to ask for help i have no idea why she took it upon herself to post about her Lizards and make it sound like it was comming from all one person but she did. and if im so horrible because my ONE iguana got out on me for the FIRST time then why is it that my 7 month old Bearded dragon in extremely good health, says the Vet, and why have i also had 2 chameleons live beyond their expected life span? I’m sorry but I’m not lieing to yous. Liz really did write all of that about her lizards. ok. and i changed my password so she cant get on my thing anymore. and also the fact that she made her own yesterday to post that appology. i mean i looked at some of your websites yous posted in your look up and believe me some of yous have had pets get away from yous and never found again and no one is attacking yous. and then some of yous say yous are people of God. well guess what God wouldnt come at us and harrass us and exacerbate the situation because of mess ups, he wouldnt want you to attack and harrass me, or Liz. yeah Liz is a dumb a$$ but still. can we please forget about Liz and help me? can we all be the grown adults we all are and get over it? forgive and forget. turn the other cheek. |

question’s she is asking. and if the owner makes there own mistakes with there iguana that’s there fault. Yes its a iguana and we dint want it to be in any horrible situation. that will hurt it or even kill it but i think bashing the owner just makes it worse for the iguana if we dint share are info then the iguana will die i dint see the point of arguing.. maybe she is telling the truth ?... so busy trying to make your points clear that maybe if you actually give her some help maybe she could help the iguana I myself care for my iguana’s very much but if your given the wrong info then yea the iguana is going to die , i dint like to say that word , at lease she’s taking the iguana to the vet I’m not trying to be put on sides or whatever yous want to call it were here to help people not bash them i know we care and that’s why were here.. she was told by plenty of people what shes doing wrong.. I’m pretty sure she is going to change things around just give her sometime , I hope your vet check up goes well please keep us updated I also hope your find your iguana and you built the proper cage , lighting and such if you have questions please feel free to message me |

Yes, I did say that, but I didn’t realize you rescued it not knowing it needed to be rescued again...All I am simply saying is, you do not know how to care for these animals and one should never be taken in unless you do, so the animals will have a better chance with someone who can care for them properly. You cannot learn everything there is to know overnight, and by the time you do know everything, it will be to late for them unfortunately. And I did not blame you for anything, and I am not attacking you, just trying to tell you that these animals need to be with someone with experience. Quote: its not my fault that everything people told me was wrong,
This is why instead of asking people who may not have a clue themselves, research! It’s the only way to learn...It only take about a minute to google "Iguanna care" or "bearded dragon care" Now, I will admit, that not everything on the net is 100% correct, but it’s alot better than what pet store people know...Again, I am not trying to attack you here, but those animals will be in big trouble if they do not get help now...Google The green Iguanna Society, everything you need to know about Iggs is there.... Quote: and if im so horrible because my ONE iguana got out on me for the FIRST time then why is it that my 7 month old Bearded dragon in extremely good health, says the Vet, and why have i also had 2 chameleons live beyond their expected life span?
No one said you are horrible, and I truely believe you want to help these critters, but if you have a 7 month old beardie thats never had a UVB light, I can promice you it’s not healthy, and also since you just started asking on the BD forum about supliments, my guess is it’s never had any, which will leave it with MBD, which is a bone disease they get from long periods with no UVB or supliments. Quote: i mean i looked at some of your websites yous posted in your look up and believe me some of yous have had pets get away from yous and never found again and no one is attacking yous.
I am not sure who are talking about but it’s definately not me, and besides, it’s two different things altogether when a pet gets away from you than a pet who can’t be cared for properly... Anyway, I believe you are trying to help these animals, but your going to have to do alot of research on your own as well as asking questions if your ever to learn anything, and never listen to pet store people, the sad truth is most of them have no clue so they give you any answer you want to make a buck... Good luck with them, I hope you get things straightened out... Nancy :) |

I know, thats why i paniced when he dropped it off at my house and got it a vet appointment for the next day. i still feel really bad that he died, he was a beautiful red. and i was hoping that the vet could have helped me out out admit him but the little guy died. Quote: you know what? rat’s right. i got too busy being appalled to remember who was in need of help.
I am sorry that my dumb friend and i offended you. I really am. i couldnt control what she wrote and she has a tendency to mess things up. I just started out with iguanas and i miss Prince VERY much we turned my boyfriend’s house up side down looking for him and we still cant find Prince. a friend Dropped another iguana off at his house because the girl thought it was ugly ( I’ll show you why when i get home) and so my other friend John is gonna bring me a 40 gal tank tomorrow morning and my boyfriend is gonna make it a second level and i have to take it to a vet tomorrow. |
