 WHAT TYPE OF SNAKE WAS IT?

While fishing in the Toohekan Creek outside Quakertown PA I was visited by a large black water snake that was nearly 10 feet long. I was standing on a rock and this giant I saw swim by. I was positive that the water must be playing tricks as it swam under water and I saw it move quite quickly. Later I saw the large head sticking out of the water. I continued fishing and then this "monster" joined me on the rock to sun bathe. I was scared and amazed at the size of this snake that actually joined me on the rock. We were no more that 3 or 4 feet from eachother and I slowly retreated off the rock and bactk to land. I did not take a picture but the snake was black and very big and the 10 foot length is NOT an exageration. Can anyone guess what might have been on the rock with me? Please believe me that this is not a made up story but my kids have been laughing at me since I told them the story.

was it pitch black, almost a very very dark navy blue?

that could’ve been a black racer.
they only grow to about 5 1/2 ft. max, though.

black rat snakes are another one it could have been,unlikely though as they don’t swim that often.
they grow to about 6 ft. max.

there’s no native snake in north america that gets to 10 feet (exactly).

it could have been a 6-8 foot eastern indigo snake, if you live in florida,georgia, or alabama.
maybe a texas indigo,depending where you live.

but, there’s no water snake that gets to 10 feet.

hmmm the only american snake that size like gotteeguy said is an indigo

u should go back and look for it and take a picture and measure it if possible
