kay I went and got all the supplies i need to make a splint.
First I am going to position the arm straight all the way back. Like when they bask.
Then I have a chop stick I cut to size and I will wrap it in thin gauz. Then i will attach it with water proof medical tape and then again around her body holding the arm against her side.

Hope this is correct. will post photos when im done.

Is she in with other dragons?...It looks to me like she got bit...I can see teeth marks on her upper & lower leg.....You really don’t want to put a splint on it unless it is broken....Does she use it at all?

 Urgent HELP!

her leg seems only to be used at the shoulder joint. she is sleeping in my closet right now on her heat rock (i know heat rocks arnt good, but she’s in the closet because the male is not happy) with the splint on keeping warm and stress free.

I read something salmon medicine helps increase calcium intake for helping healing bones. If its not broken, then what else could have happened.

I will ask my vet at 2pm, Im going to homestead animal hospital, englewood colorado. apparently one of the vets their was a vet at a zoo and has experience with reptiles, water dragons are listed. I googled reptile vets denver.

I really hope it isnt serious, my other female was injured in a similar way at the elbow, although its healed, she still only has mobility at the shoulder.

if anything, the vet can give you an xray to see if the bone is broken. so this happened to your other lizard too? was she also with the male at the time? you need to keep the male separated then. they shouldn’t be housed together anyway because he will induce egg laying in the females.

as for the salmon, it does have a lot of calcium in the canned version since the canning process softens the bones enough for us to eat. its the bones that give the calcium - same as giving a pinky. i’m not a big fan of canned foods especially since the recent published findings of BPA amounts in them, which is in the lining of the cans and is toxic in low doses.

let us know what the doctor says.

My other female was injured by this female when only those two lived together (my guess) she could have landed badly also, she didn’t have bite marks like this one does. This is the first time they have actually bitten each other.

got xrays from the vet. Not broken or fractured, its damaged ligaments.

vet said she has nice strong bones in comparison to others he has seen xrays of.

She is to remain by herself with no branches to climb. ligaments are worse then broken bones, they take a long time to heal, he expects about 10 months.

No splint needed, his only concern is the arm becoming stiff once its healed, making it seem immobile.

10 months?!?!?! holy crap!
Poor Dragon!

I think the reason you vet sees a lot with poor bone structure is because, sadly, most owners don’t do their research and keep using UVB bulbs until they burn out. After the first 6 months the bulb will still light up, but will produce zero UVB. That’s why a lot of us use the MVB bulbs, they last 12-18 months with very little reduction in UVB output over that time.

that’s great its not broken or fractured. 10 months sounds like a very long time. i know that damaged ligaments are bad, but jeez!!! i think swimming in the bathtub a 3x a week in some really nice warm water would be good physical therapy. plus, it would help to keep her limber and give her some good low impact exercise.

would it be beneficial to get her her own tank? I just dont think living in your closet would be that great for her lol, might stress her out if she’s used to a tank.

something that is more long than tall in her case for now.

also for the heat rock, place a washcloth over it so you take down the chance of it burning her =)

I let all of them free roam the upstairs so they know where they are. I switch it up and i cleared out my closet to make an area for my male but he is just free roaming my room now. The two females are back in the huge cage together and loving not having mr grumpy in there hahaha.

if they are free roaming, is your house 65-75% humidity? is your house about 80-85 degrees durring the day?

do you not mind reptile poop every where? do you realize you CAN get sick from reptile poop?

letting them roam daily all day long isnt a good idea. ok on occasions but if incorrect temps and humidity is on a daily basis its the same as not providing their needs...

get another cage it will feel safer by far. Put him in the bathtub or shallow bowl so he dont have to clime in and out. Put paper towl in there not bark( Leg could twist in it or something). 10 months is a long time for him to be on the ground so if it was mine i would take it out and put it up high light a table or ledge but make sure it dont jump or something like that. Make sure he keeps his eating up he might get stressed from all this so keep a good eye on him and always ask questions if needed good luck
