Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

Ok so he’s not eating right and he has both eyes closed the right one is fine it just gets some serious sticky eye boogers but the left one looks a little worse you can barely see the eye under the goo. I’ve been using eye drops on him and they are getting a little better but it has me worried but I work so damn much its almost impossible for me to be able to get time to take him to the vet. Any suggestions would nice. Thanks guys, I’ve missed yall.

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

To help you better we’re gonna need to know the enclosure info.

What kind of uvb light are you using? type and brand would be nice.

what are the temperatures?

what kind of substrate are you using?

it could be an eye infection. and it will only be solved by going to the vet. would there be anyone you can sk to take him there?

also some herp vets (certified reptile ones!) if you call in and arrange it might be kind enough to take him in for the appointment while you work. just a suggestion.

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

Ok so high 86.4 - 78.8•f humidity 83% I have just upgraded his stats though the humidity used to not be as high :( bad I know. He has eco earth with a light mixture of med sized bark and a 1.5gl pool with a repti filter umm I think that’s it I might be forgetting some things...

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

Ok so nvm about that I took his lights away and moved him to a room with morning sun. I’ve just read most the info on the lights and that they cause damage to the eyes...I wish I had known that early I just hope its not too late for his eye.

So new questions what type and brand of lighting do I need?

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

The 18" tube is a good one ...other than that here is what and why i recommend...Mega Ray mercury vapor bulb for larger enclosures at least 3 ft. tall...you must be able to keep a distance of 12 -15 inches from the animal with this light / heat ......they last about 12 months before needing to be replaced...that’s 2x longer than the tube lights...and sometimes they can last longer ( MVB)

They are 39.99 + 10.00 shipping then the dome type fixture...add 14.99 from any brick and mortar store.

Here is some intense information about the Mega Ray and why they are the best ....Link

Link

They are such good lamps ...they produce 3x as much UVB as tube lights and that is what water dragons / iguanas/ bearded lizards love...

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

Turn that compact light off right away and ger your wd to the vet! It needs eye drops from the vet. Take in a fresh fecal when you go too. I had the same compact when my wd was very young. I didn’t know any better. The eye damage didn’t get to the point of yours, but I believe your dragon will be just fine as long as you get him to the vet asap.

CP is our light guru, so listen to him, he knows is stuff!!!

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

Ok thanks guys. I’ve had Java for about a year and a half now and haven’t had any problems with him till I bought new lights... I should have figured. Some of you guys might remember me from a while ago but I see a lot of new people. So that’s cool.

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

The reptiGLO 10.0 has been known to cause the same issues as the compact lights. I recommend like chris said the megaray.

its a mercury vapour bulb, and maybe its me but it makes my lizzies alot more happier and energetic.

heres their website! its well worth it. www.reptileuv.com

if you like flourescent tubes better i’d go with the reptiSUN 10.0 or 5.0 linear light.

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

Haha, glad you got it figured out!! In most cases removing the light and substituting it with natural sunlight 20 mins a day, or a better uvb light and antibiotic eye drops has been all that was needed to get it turned back around, with only a few cases resulting in permenant injuries. Like said the MVB’s like the Mega Ray are good, as long as you have a large enclosure, and the Repti-SUN 10.0 or 5.0 linear tubes are good as well.

Hi im back but java lizard needs terrible help

If you moved your critter into a room with sunlight ...just know that windows and screens can block most ...if not all UVB...theyneed direct exposure to get the benifit of the natural sun ...here is a link about the effects of the bad bulbs on the lizards eyes....
