Nice doggies , but wow , how is it that you seem to have so many run aways?

do you need a fence repair ...or what ? What a shame ....does the fear of the animal control getting them and disposing of them ever cross your mind ...or do they have tags...how long ago is this run away ...? or are you just trying to chit chat ?

I would be worried sick ...

I hope you find the other guys soon. Poor things, hope they are alright

my malamute pup used to escape all the time but she would find a way to get OVER THE TOP of the 8ft razor wire fence.... crazy dog... she always came back though... usually brought a male dog with her lmao... a certain one used to come over all the time he was a stray and we took him in. abused, got shot in the leg, fight with a pitbull and all beat up. poor thing... we named him Boy Toy because he only came around for... well... our dog was a female so you get the idea....

Ahhh, I’ve always loved dogs!!!! They are all so cute!! Hey Vin, my hubby’s work has their dogs on shockcollars, with the underground (or however it works) for their 4 yard dogs who were constantly getting out, and they don’t get out no more! They are still happy and stuff when I see them too, so I don’t think the collars are causing them any kind of distress either, other than not letting them escape!

I hope you find your dogs, lost dogs suck. My 2 babies got out a couple months ago. I was going nuts!! I went up to the pound daily and put a flyer up there. Finally one afternoon an animal control officer called and said that my dogs had just been brought in. But my Pitt was injured. So I rushed up there and bailed em out for $160!! I started crying on the phone and again when I saw it was them!! I bawled like a baby!! We came to the conclusion that my boy had been hit by a car, probably the same peeps who brought them in. He is fine and dandy today and they both only go out on a leash!! LOL!! Ike won’t stay in a fence and the log chain wasn’t holding him either so leash it is!!! Here’s some pics!!!

Here’s my Sarah. She’s an English Springer Spaniel who has proved she’ll bite someone for messing with her family!! I lover her to death for it!!

And here’s my Ike. He’s a Pitt Bull obviously, lol! He too has proven to be a good gaurd dog, but hasn’t bit anyone.

Oh and he hates lawnmowers!!!!!!

ive heard the elec fences work pretty good. not sure about the shock collars though... but, it seems like they would. i hope you find them soon. as Kitara says, i would definitely put up flyers and call the animal control.

one thing i can say, my dog will never run, thank god! he never leaves my side. but, those type of dogs usually dont. once, i accidently left him at the river. we have been down there many times with him, so he is very familiar with the surroundings and little hiding places. anyway, when we were leaving, it was dark and he must have jumped out to sniff something and i didnt see. we were real tired when we got home and crashed right away and didnt notice! i felt soo bad!!! when i figured he was gone the next morning, i rushed back down there to see, and there he was.... still in the same place looking around. i knew no one would take him, because he would run away from anyone but me. and nobody would be able to catch the little tyke! hes quick!! lol i dont take him anymore after that! ....and i count my blessings that i still have him!!!

anyways, hope you find them soon!

hey Vinny sorry to hear they are escaping and i hope you find them!

but how are they escaping? Its so silly how people say that their dogs are running away from them because they think theyre dogs hate them or something. totally myth.

anymoo. I didnt catch... what gender they are. BUT if they are neither spayed/neutered that they have more of the instinct to roam/search for a mate.

If you havnt got any of your dogs neutered i’d suggest you do so.

Why don’t they have any tags on!! big no no! are they microchipped? tattoed?

Call the spca, post flyers around ack. Go out around morning and evening.

Shock collars unless used by an expert.proffesional are always useless.

Look up NILIF (nothing in life is free) and start using it. its a program where the dogs respect you as the leader etc. You have more then three dogs there for you have a pack! and packs need to know the rules etc or else they’ll be conffused and sometimes stressed.

Keep us up to date.

uhh well looks like they were better off tied up then let loose. If you know that they wont come on command then don’t let them loose... Tying them up is fine unless they are tied in the front (where they can get territorial aggression because tying them up when strangers are there make them feel vulnerable/trapped)

Looks like the other dogs dont have their collars/tags as well. You do know this could mean life/death for them?

Some shelters have no kill policies but other dont....

I don’t get it though... soo you let Callie loose and left her out by her lonesome?

Well god luck and i do hope someone lets you know bout them soon. Visit the shelters everyday!!

I had a dog that ran away once... when i was young.. now i think my dad gave him away and pretended he ran away =( it was like when i was 9.... like 11 years ago pooey

ok bailey use to always get out by digging..we fixed that ..then callie came along and after a month she started climbing the fence...which got bailey in that habbit so they were both tied up....they were fixed...had tags...Callie was also microchipped so one day i let them off and she got into the other side of the yard(there not allowed there)..and got out some how i went to get her and then it started storming and she freaked soooo...i went to get bailey and tie her upp...that was 2 months ago...now two days ago bailey got out... i am trying to convince my dad to get an electric underground wire...if we get another fence should the squares/holes be too small to fit ther feet through or big...we have 3 fences...big squares....small squares...and the perfect size square to fit there feet through...they climb only the perfect sized ones..is that confusing..LOL??

whats their breeds? some breeds/dogs the underground wire just wont work
Don’t get a underground fence its not worth it. just sounds like your type of fence isnt working out for you

i’d say minimum should be at LEAST a 6 foot tall fence. i’m guessing you have a chain link fence? there are like plastic strips that you can install that weave through them. Can you fix the fence so its as close to the ground as possible? and replace the grass with a borer of stone/cement/river rocks/interlocking whatever else.

Well what i’m getting at are the dogs need more exercise, and they are bored. Digging can be a symptom of boredom.

How many walks and how long are they getting? Again depending on the breed they’ll want more mental stimulation etc.

Good to know that at least Callie is microchipped! so thats good!

once again keep us updated!

Basically a shock collar is a training device used for correcting unwanted behaviour. of course there is always a chance that even if it "solves" that problem because of the collar another problem grows. example, fear aggression, or if your dog is already timid, their self confidence can plummet, causes alot more problems

Now, shock collars can have a negative impact on your dog as well. I’d stay away from it for now, seeing as without a proffessional working with you and your dog it is pretty much useless.

Ahh chainlink/chicken wire fencing i presume? like i said there are plastic strips that you can install... let me find a piccy
something like this but there are better ones

the easiest way i see it is just changing the fence to one of the other two.

TRUST me alot of people want to buy shock collars, electric fences, debarkers etc just because they advertise EASY..FAST solutions. this is pretty much crap lol. Nothing can solve its self "simply" persay.

Like i said before this can be solved by:

1. Exercise

2. mental stimulation. Boredom can cause, digging, barking and other unwanted behaviours.

3. NILIF (nothing in life is free)

it’ll help more though if yah tell me their breeds and their ages =)

Aww dragonpaw! one day! I swear you’ll never ever see me with a small dog!!!

Bailey is a short haired collie/greyhound and Callie is an australian terrier mix. Bailey is almost 4 and Callie is 1 1/2. They both came to us as strays so maybe that is what they used to do with their original owners, climb the fence and run.

OMG thats why... when you find bailey NEVER ever let him off lead unless you know for sure that if you say come once he will return. Greyhounds are sighthounds, born and bred to chase at the slightest movement. they have been known to hunt for days on end.
Collies are a working breed. They need mental stimulation, and are stubborn to train sometimes. They love to herd and work and run.

Most greyhound owners are advised to always keep their hounds on lead as when they are on the hunt they get into this mentality and all their attention is focused on that.

even at 4 he will still have all that energetic energy lol

For Bailey and his Collie side i’m thinking more walks, exercise and brain games. like frozen kongs stuffed with stuff.

Terriers are also hyperactive dogs. I forget what their originally bred to do but they can also benefit from add exercise.

The good thing that you have so many dogs is that they can tire eachother out when you play games with everyone.

=)

CUTE dogs everyone!!!!

Vinny ~ good luck getting your dogs back. What a hassle. My brother just adopted a dog that was left behind at a Foreclosure. It’s the CUTEST dog, but she’s a runner. She’s still just a pup too...almost a year though. They recently got the shock collar and it does NOT work for them. They were hoping it would at least slow her down so they could grab her, but it doesn’t. I HOPE you find something that will help you with your dogs.

Here’s my dog, Riley. He’ll be 15yrs later this month.

*sleeping...his normal position*

I had an image I wanted to show of his face, but photo bucket is not cooperating. I rotated the picture and saved it, but when I try to post it, it keeps showing up as un-rotated. Grrr.

 CORRUPTION

all my 5 years of training max...GONE...maggie is literally corrupting him...we have a coffee table and max can easily take stuff off of it....never has.... so i take something from maggie and put it on the coffee table..and MAX took it and ran all around the house with it...then one time he ran in my room as if he was outside(full speed) and ran into my fish tank......then i went to put her on a leash...and he took that from me....its like having THREE puppies...he jumps on the furniture...he nips...hes answering back...like maggie...uuuugh....but at least he is playing more with...me.. he never use to he usually just lays there..except when he played with...callie and bailey:(

 CORRUPTION

Vinny are you even listening to the advice im giving? =(

I’m sorry but i’m gonna be straightforward. there isnt a problem with these dogs at all... but a problem with the owners.

Like i said before you have more than three dogs, this is a pack! they need guidelines and a leader.

Look up NILIF and start on it. Everyone sits before they’re given their bowl, no ones allowed on the furniture. etc.

These dogs need exercise. they sound like they are bored.

Training is life long, training never stops. Sometimes dogs need reminding just as people do.
