Go to Wal-mart. Not sure if you can still get them, though. And keep in mind each county/city has it’s own ordinances.

True sir. California has no restrictions on any of the Crotalus. However, our county allows you to have 2 max.

I looked it up and i think you dont need a permit for species from texas but you can buy a $60 permit for species that are from different states and countries.

i live in texas and im very familiar with all the laws related to herps. theres actually alot more then you think. the permit that guy was talking about getting at wal-mart is only a hunting license that you used to need to go herping and collecting. but since the addition of the new law hb 2012 i think it is it has made it illegal to do any roadcrusing so thet license dosent even matter anymore. as far as keeping hots. you cant. flatout. there is only 2 ways. 1 is you keep it illigally and risk the chance of getting caught. 2 is go to texas parks and wildlife and tell them you wanna keep a venomous snake. now there gonna ask you for a couple of things before they give you a permit. 1 is a couple of thousand dollars. 2 is proof that your keeping the snakes for educational or research purposes and theres no way you can lie your way thru it. now i got my permit because i do all the collecting for my herpetology professor at texas A&M and he got funded for a study so he put me on his permit so i can continue collecting. sorry guy.

No, I was referring to the permit to keep exotics which went on sale April 1st for $20 and the commercial permit for $60. Unless it’s been done away with in the past 2 months and since they still have it on the TPWD site, I’m assuming they haven’t, so I’d look into it.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/faq/business/permits/nonindigenous_snakes/index.phtml

To my knowledge, there is no permit needed to keep native snakes.....but there are many ordinances in many counties/cities.

You have it right TJP. New law this year. If you are a breeder of "exotics" (large python species, anacondas and poisonous non indegenous species) the fee for your permit is higher, not sure, I think 60 bucks was the set permit fee. Records must be kept of each individual it is sold to...etc.
The 20 dollar permit you mentioned is just to own a "pet" exotic.
Pet stores have to get a different kind of permit.

To those who are asking, many owners/breeders trying to stay under the radar in Texas are not about to put their "buisness" on the forum, as we all know, big brother monitors this site, as he does others.
