 Cottonmouth Question

This was posted on another forum and I don’t have any idea? I thought you experts here may have a theory. Thanks.

"do got a question for ya if you dont mind. Of all the cottonmouths i have seen and caught all over, there is one area here where the larger snakes dont turn black. They look like juvenile snakes only huge! Nothing special about the area as it is just a couple beaver ponds on the back side of our farm. Been seeing and catching them since i was a kid. My Dad once told me that these snakes were cottonmouths and the blacker ones were water moccasins and i believed it till i got old enough to know better. I see large adults (I assume) other places that still have markings but not as vivid and as often as this one particular area. Any ideas as to what would make a difference?"

 Cottonmouth Question

Could also be watersnakes...i rarely see watersnakes losing much of their juvenile colors..or at least the ones here in east texas...unless he knows a 100% fact they are cottonmouths..in that case it could just be the pigments holding in..or wat ever lol
