 UVB meter guide

I am looking at buying a UVB meter, I was wondering what ranges is best for testing UVB bulbs?
The solartech 6.0 says it reads 280-320 nanometer range.
I found some from D.A.S. distribution
http://www.dasdistribution.com/products/yk34UV.htm
Does this look like a very good model to use?D.A.S. Distribution
Thanks for any help.

 UVB meter guide

Frocto,

There is a ton of info over on the yahoo uvb meter group.

I have the solartech 6.2 meter that reads in the same range as the 6.0 (280-320) and
peak sensitivity at 295, right in the middle of the UVB-D range. From what I understand that is the best range to be looking at.

The meter you have linked looks like it was made for purposes other than measuring reptile bulbs. Personally for the investment I would prefer the solartech meters which is made for the purpose of measuring bulbs.

Also I would suggest the 6.2 over the 6.0 as the 6.0 reads out in mw/cm2 and the 6.2 reads in uw/cm2 which is more appropriate for the measuring of UVB for reptiles.

The 6.0 would work fine but you would need to divide the results by 1000 to get the same readings everyone else uses.

Solartech also has a new meter, the 6.4 which instead of reading in uw/cm2 reads in iu of d3 converted per minute. There are some interesting discussions over in the uvb meter group about the usefulness of this meter (and who it might be useful to) but the jury is still out.

When it comes down to it the 6.2 is the gold standard in handheld UVB meters for reptiles right now.

Every once in a while the uvb meter group puts together a group buy of 6.2’s at a discounted price.
