 New Uro - Substrate Concerns

I recently got a new Red Saharan Uro (2 days ago). First time owning a Uro and unfortunately didn’t study up enough on substrate and just listened to what someone said while purchasing his tank and other equipment and bought crushed walnut shells.

After doing more reading I’ve see that the walnut shells are highly advised against. I plan on changing it out as soon as possible, but in the the mean-time is there any cause for concern of impaction at this point?

I covered his tank in newspaper and haven’t seen a lot of him as he’s mostly been hiding and to my knowledge has not eaten anything yet.

Any advice on substrate? He’s about 1.5 years old.

Thanks in advance.

 New Uro - Substrate Concerns

Congrats on the new guy!

Honestly, all my wife and I ever used has been bird seed. We also set a couple of stone slabs for basking underneath the lamp. We found it to be easy for clean up and he snacks on it every now and again too. We decided against any of the fine sands because of fears of it getting in his eyes. Maybe other folks might have another suggestion as well, but bird seed has been great thus far. Good luck!
