 Enclosure design...

As it stands my current plans are to build a square enclosure 5’ long 30" deep and 20" high. I was thinking of having the front panel hinged instead of having the the top open so I don’t have to move lights around every time. My question is are uros prone to trying to leap out if I had the hinged front panel?

I would suggest sliding glass panels or double hinged doors mounted on a vertical axis. Always disliked the drop down panel/door design.

I can do that but I wandered how the uro will react to an open panel, will it be quick to try and escape?

no , they will sometimes (if you own a nervous one) run around like crazy when you open it but just keep a watch for them, also best to build a tank with at least a 3" littler dam that way they can’t just run out out of. I use sliding glass, never had an issue. I think the sliding glass is better then the swing door because the swing door does open up a bit more and harder to control the animal inside if you have to.
