He looks great, man--a lot of white on him. This wasn’t the same individual you put up on FC recently, is it?

No, Doug D told me that one is a lowland Benti from the intermediate range that integrates with rainbows, but that one was mostly lowland. I have decided to keep it. This one is pure rainbow.
Vers,

How did your ornate eggs do?

Very, very interesting...do you have a lowland female on hand? You just don’t see U. benti around here any more. You should post some updated images of him.

As for my ornate, she decided against egg production this time around. I suppose if I wanted to better ensure gravidity I could have placed the male in there intermediately for at least a week. Since it was just a trial run for the heck of it I decided against it, especially since I wasn’t planning on breeding them this year. On that note, how are your ocellated eggs coming--any luck?

Nice Rainbow!! Sweet colors!

Hey Matt.. Just curious.. what gram weight are your Ornata and Philbyi? Just trying to gauge the age/sexual maturity of mine in comparison. Thanks!

I don’t want to derail the thread, but my philbyi were 110g and 76 g (M/F) and my ornata were 159g and 150g (M/F) back in early April (certainly they all have put weight on since). I haven’t weighed them lately, but now that you brought it up I’ll have to do that some time soon (I try to do it on a month to month basis...so much for that). If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or just post in a related thread :)

Vers,
The eggs are still incubating, as of today it has been 68 days.

Steadfast,

I bought it last year at around august, by next year he should be fully grown. It eats very well, he is very healthy and active, and has a great attitude. He is a very sweet uro, I can hold him when ever I want and never makes a fuss.

Here is the other rainbow/benti male. He is shedding at the moment, and looks horrible. I will take better pics when he is done with the shed.

I agree...despite the shed he still looks good. I’m curious though, did Doug give you any specific physical indicators that point towards a possible cross between benti and yemenensis?

Vers,

Sorry I took so long to reply. This is what Doug told me.

That is a more typical Rainbow (Uromastyx yemenensis). Your other one is Uromastyx benti. They intergrade in the wild to some degree so you see a lot of inbetweens in looks. If you look for anal pores, Rainbows don’t really have them or have only a few hard to see ones, while benti does.

This male does have spores, my other doesn’t. Here is a better pic of him.

Ah I see...I wasn’t aware Doug had any info on their pores, I just figured he went by another physical characteristic. What he refers to as the benti male seems to have a lot of blue on him, which is why I was a bit confused. Intergrade it is, I suppose.

First I want to say that is a beautiful Uro. I noticed you said he was a male... if I post pictures of mine would you be able to tell me the sex of my Uro?
