New here, just thought I’d share some of my little guys

So like the title says I am new here. I have two lizards currently, and am looking to eventually get more. But for this post I will focus on my Red Saharan Uro. This is Rusty =) I got him from a friend who was moving and couldn’t take him with her. He is approximately 2 and a half years old. I am in the process of building him an enclosure to better suit him. But currently he is in a 4’Lx18"Dx26"H tank. For lighting he has a Reptisun 36" T5 HO 10.0 UVB, with a Home Depot 65W Flood lamp for heat and a 100W equivalent (I believe at 23W), compact fluorescent for lighting. Hot side is between 120*F and 134*F measured both with temp gun and probe. Cool side dabbles between mid 80*s to low 90*s depending on how hot it is outside. Eats everyday on a spring mix, along with alternating endive, arugala, and dandelion. He is bedded on millet seed also with some rocks under in certain places so he isn’t constantly sinking, and can still dig. Once or twice a week he gets some lentils which he loves. Also has calcium d3 powder on his meals twice a week. Lights are set on two separate dimmers to simulate* sunrise and sunset at 6:30AM and 7:30PM. He just recently went into a shed. But enough babble here are some pics =)

Haha, my girlfriend has a beardie I have a yellow saharan, you can see a picture of him if you look at the post "Yellow Nigerian Uromastyx"
How large is the enclosure you’re making? Are you doing sliding doors or a swinging one?

The enclosure for my Beardie is at 4’L x 2.5’W x 3’H. I will be doing the sliding door thing depending on price of the glass. Ideally I would like the sliders more just cause a 3" swing door would be kinda hard to work with. But I am already pretty high in the cost more than I wanted to be in on this and now that I have the Uro who will be needing an enclosure gotta look at cost lol. Thankfully the Uro wont have such a high enclosure. My beardie I have have since she was 5 months old, and now she is going on 5 years old. Wanted to spoil her a bit since I think she deserves it lol

Yeah I have a swing door and I regret it. I’m going to change it to a slider.

Eesh yeah I hope I don’t have to go that route. Space is super limited for me right now and that would not be smart. But like I said cost would be the ultimate factor. May be do the slider for the beardie and swing for the Uro

Very, very nice geyri there! Love the contrast he’s got going on. As for the setup, I would elevate that basking spot to form a hide beneath it. The more enclosed the better.

How did you hang the door? Personally, I prefer hinged doors to sliders.

Yeah he now has my beardies old corner cave (cleaned first of course) that I set up so its to the side of his basking area. I left it fully covered with the millet and he dug out enough to get under it now. He is almost fully shed, has some shed which seems stuck at the last 1/3rd of his tail, but from what I have read that’s the longest of the tail parts. If it goes until the weekend I will rub some oil a bit on it and see if that helps

No need for oil so soon...he’ll get it off.

Well his tail has been like that getting "ighter" from the shed for almost two weeks now. It was the first part to start to shed, then his whiole body (besides the part between the base of the tail and the start of the shed piece). I figured I would wait it out and see what happened after his body peeled. Now it is (body shed) almost totally ready to come off and his tail is still the same. That’s why I said I would give it to the end of the week and see what happens. Here is a better pic of the tail section in question (I never have bathed him, and his tank has practically zero humidity)

I have had my Uro since Feb. He began to shed his feet back in March. He is shedding his head now. Tails supposedly take the longest to shed so I would not expect it to come off when his body sheds.

Well during a shed you wanna keep his hide humidity somewhere between 20%-30%
