More help? Anyway, eh, are worms good? Like, wax worms? I have a tank, I think it is like...gee, like fifty, sixty gallons? Is that big enough. I have lights already. I have one of those uv lights, and two 150 watt red heat lights. Why are crickets bad?

More help? You shouldn’t feed any live prey to uros. Uros are herbivores, meaning they dont eat meat. I am not sure what kind of veggies are good to give them, but maybe JOANAVOKES, or Uro_Fan can tell you.

More help? No crickets, no protein whatsoever. Uros are herbivores, just give them curly endives and escaroles for their staple food.

More help? You can feed crickets like once a month or something if you want to, that what I do. My Mali who is about a year old loves crickets but I only give him like 4 at the beginning of each month and he’s fine, too many gives them liver problems. See in my opinion I know for a fact alot of other people believe this, Uro’s are not vegetarians by choice, it is more of an adaptation to the environment they live in, in the wild. A few crickets a month won’t hurt but if you feed it crickets like you would a bearded dragon for example you’re gonna kill your Uro.

More help? Uros are herbivores and though as you suggested that "they’re not vegetarians by choice, it is more of an adaptation to the environment they live in, in the wild" does that make them any less vegetarians? We’re no longer cave men/women by choice, should we move back into the cave now that we’re of age? If you’re feeding your uros crickets then it’s more of your choice than your uros. I personally would stick strictly with the vegetarian diet especially if armed with the knowledge that too much will kill them.

More help? I looked up the Deerfern farms website as well as this is what I found, stated under -Diet-, "While most Uros consume the occasional insect in the wild, these generally cause more problems than they are worth in domestic specimens. On very rare occasion, we may offer an occasional superworm (Zoophobia sp.) to individuals that are slow to settle in. These are a great way to tame your Uros. Many are easily addicted to superworms and will go to great lengths to procure them. Conventional wisdom suggests gravid females fed a slightly higher than normal amount of insect matter produce better clutches, but we have not found that to hold true. Most commercially available insects are excessively high in phosphorous which causes the body to excrete calcium into the feces. Be careful to supplement w/ calcium whenever you feed insects and never feed more than just a couple per sitting and only a few per week at most. Hatchlings in particular easily develop metabolic problems if fed too many insects. All in all, we strongly suggest you avoid insects in the diet except under special circumstances (for example for individuals that are refusing to eat or refusing to tame down)." It does not say that they should get some protein.

More help? A better way to get them to gain weight (which is why crixs are ocassionly fed to new imports) is to feed peas. Not canned though and not alot.

More help? Hey Grandma, The site also fails to tell what happens if you have a Male Uro that likes super worms and does not get them. Never go near the Uro with the smell of super worms on your fingers and set a feeding dish of greens in the tank. I lost a chunk of my finger that way. Buddy must have been fed Super worms prior to me getting him. I just had put some Supers into a dish for my Leopard Geckos. I then was putting a lovely dish of greens in the Uro tank, when Buddy decided my finger was just as good as it smelled and the little PIT BULL Uro chomped down on the side of my finger and took a chunk of flesh and part of the nail before I could get him to release. Beware of Uros and super worms. Not a good combo. I feed strictly Veggies. Joan A.
