Nigerian Uromastyx RI Vet Anti, Fec Test, Pin Worms Anti
I Took him to the vet, he gave him an injection (Bet carotene and anti. B etc..), and he gave me some antibiotics, to treat him once a day 14 to 21 days. At the same time, took a feces sample for test, the vet called me in 48 hours and told me he has pin worms, went back and gave me another anti B. for treatment (3 days wait 10 days, 3 days, 10 days etc..), know I have the poor little guy on two anti B. one for RI and another for pin worms. Appreciate you reading my history, Q. Anyone with experience with Nigerian Uro. his not eating still, and I have been giving him some Green Bean Baby food (force feed) & the two anti B. I put always a tray of food (dandelion/collard/bock choy/butternut squash/zucchini etc..) doesn’t touch it. Any opinions. Q To fix the temp. at night I put a small heating pad, under the tank, only during the night. Turn in off, during the day (gets to comfortable with it) and uses the basking light & uvb. Is that okay? Any additional opinions, would be greatly appreciated. Please help. |

Q. Does anyone have any tips, in feeding a not eating Nigerian uromastyx? I have been force feeding, green beans and vegetable mix baby food. Q. Heating pad during the night, in the den, turn off during the day, in order to go to the basking area, is that okay? Q. One antibiotics for Respotiry Infection (14 to 21 days), and a antiparastic for the pin worms (3 days straight, wait for 10 and 3 days again). For the three days, his taking both, is OK? The vet instructed me to. PLEASE HELP |

2) Dimensions of the enclosure you are using. Measure it- do not guess or give gallon size 3) Species (if known), length, and weight of the animal 4) Listing of all animals kept in the enclosure referred to in the post 5) Basking spot temperature and how that temperature was measured 6) Temperature throughout the rest of the enclosure (warm and cool areas) and how these temperatures were measured e.g. digital thermometer, stick on dial thermometer. Provide the nighttime temperatures as well. 7) Acknowledge whether you are using a UVB bulb and if so, the brand, age of bulb, and distance from the bulb to the uromastyx 8) Diet items being fed and how often each item is fed 9) List of the supplements being used, how much is used, and how often the supplement is used 10) Type of substrate (cage bottom material). If this is sand, state whether it is calcium sand 11) Describe your animal’s daily routine. When it exits the hide, when it retreats for the night, how long it is usually out throughout the day, is it active during this time, how much time does it spend sitting on the basking spot…. 12) Describe your animal’s appetite. 13) Describe any unusual behaviors you are seeing or any recent changes in behavior. Also note whether any recent modifications have been made to this animal’s environment. e.g new enclosure, move to another room, new heat bulb.... 14) Describe how often this animal is handled and the type of handling. 15) State whether the animal has been to a vet, when that was, and whether the animal was diagnosed with a medical condition. Also state whether the uromastyx has ever had a fecal check. If so states when the fecal check was done, what was found, and if medication was prescribed. Photos of the animal and/or issue can be extremely helpful. The more questions that you provide answers to, the quicker and more accurate the return answers/replies will be. |

did you give ample time to the uro to eat on it’s own? is your husbandry sound? did your vet talk to you about probiotics after treatment? improper husbandry = stress force feeding = stress vet trip = stress antibiotiotics = stress antiparasitic = stress handlings = stress respiraotory infection = stress parasites = stress A sressed uro will not eat. Then when you force feed it could make it even worse further complicating the situation. If the uro was hydrated by the vet and the husbandry is sound the uro should eat eventually on it’s own.Hopefully the vet weighed and dosed accordingly. Also I would not feed baby food (peas) it’s not a great recovery food. "ox bow" criticle care "herbivore" would be a good choice and only as a very last resort. It is totally normal for a uro to hide and refuse food for what may seem like "too long" after antibiotics. then when somone tries to force feed too soon it may stress the uro eben further and may just rely on you to feed it having no interest in seeking food for themselves. is the uro still bubbling mucus? does it look high in the air? does it shake it’s head back and forth? does the uro rubb it’s head on furnishing? how are the meds? working? I would disinfect the enclosure, put the uro on paper towels, use non porous furnishings that can easily be cleaned, clean the enclosure during and after treatment, you do not want reinfection to occur, you do not want to medicate any more than is necessary. Keep in close contact with your vet and state your concernes. could you provide a picture (recent) of your enclosure and uro? |

Also get rid of the UTH and keep your house/room (heat) at 75-80 while the uro recovers. after that 70-75 is ideal. watch the humidity and do not bathe . |
