 Got a new uro!!

in the past I’ve come here for advice about getting a uro. I’ve spent a long time gathering info about these beautiful creaters. and now i have 1. an old boss of mine (petsmart) had to give a 5 month old Mali up because his Egyptian was harassing it, so i gladly excepted. the thing is, when i got him about 3 days ago he was in pretty bad shape... lots of small bloody blisters long claws and a few open wounds he gave me something called "chlorhex-q" should i use this? on top of all this he wont eat and all he does is hide. what should i do?

heat: 120v 50Hz 150w bulb w/compatible fixture .
night temp: about 80
light: natural sunlight poor in second half of the day, have a uva uvb 5 footer no fixture yet.
food: mustard greens, endive, bok choy, dandelion greens, parsnip greens.
substrate: pool filter sand

If I were you I would get him to a reptile vet as soon as possible.

I am not sure what "chlorhex-q" is?

But you for sure want to get this Uromastyx off the pool filter sand if he has open wounds and blisters.

Use paper towels or news paper for his bedding until his sores and blisters heal up.

chlorhexadine is a presurgical scrub used for surgery prep. it is a scrub tho so it is made to clean wounds, not leave on them. it must be rinsed off. it is a broad spectrum antimicrobial.

It still needs to see the vet even after cleaning the wounds with disinfectant, the possibility of infection may give need for a broad spectrum antibiotic if any of the wounds are deep or sutures if they need closing.

I’m assuming his old boss had both the baby Mali and the Egyptian together in one tank and the Egyptian was attacking the baby.

Get the Mali to a VET immediately. You will mostly likely need some antibiotics and because it was most likely being bullied, it is probably dehydrated and starving because the Egyptian was eating all the food and will need some supplemental hydration. DO NOT SOAK IT !! This can make the wounds worse possibly.

You need a Basking Light, natural sunlight is good, but there is no way, unless you live in the high desert, that you are reaching the 130+ deg basking area it needs.

Take the pool filter sand out and put the Mali on papertowels until the wounds heal AND until the Mali is at least 7" long from nose to tail.

Good luck.

up date. found out the Pryor owner kept him and the Egyptian on a substrate of millet and that’s all he ate so no more millet. I’ve hand fed him all the above mentioned greens(i don’t have to force him :))that’s the only way he’ll eat... I’ve also left a thing of brown’s fruit bites banquet parakeet seed just in case. working on getting the sand out (i work 96 hours a week and I’ve got him in a 85 gallon breeder) so that will come soon. all the advice was awesome keep it coming, I’m so glad i found y’all also should i use the wash and if so when

Dr Douglass Dix of Deer Fern Farms keeps his on millet seed but in no way should it be meant as its diet, its merely okay to eat should they ingest it.
