 Greens clarification

Shopping at whole foods for Steve, I came across a large section of greens. They labeled endive as "lettuce"; is endive a type of lettuce? I thought lettuces are bad for uros.

Also, is butter lettuce okay for uros?

And I use put vitamin powder on his greens once a week, is that okay? Once a week?

thanks.

From what I found on the Interweb, endive is a type of Lettuce, but it massively different from regular lettuce. Not all lettuces are bad for Uro’s. Most just don’t have the nutrients that Endive, Escrarole and Dandelion leaves have.

The upper picture is Endive, the lower picture is Escarole. Maybe this will help with identifying them

Not sure what "butter" lettuce is .... Sorry, can’t help you on that one.

As for the supplements, they shouldn’t need them if they are getting the right greens. Don’t know much about vitamin power, I only use mazuri pellets ground up and sprinkled on their food 1-2 times per week and that’s it.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help.

Does endive or escarole go by any other names? I have recently moved and walmart is one of the only grocers in my area. Thanks

you can also get chickory (looks similar to endive with kind of curly leaves)
Dandelion greens are also good.

Is chickory called "curly endive as well? that’s what I’ve been getting at whole foods, "curly endive".

And is there a place to puchase dandelion greens or flowers? I know it sounds a bit weird since it’s a weed and all. I’ve had no luck searching for them in my friend’s gardens and am not about to venture elsewhere for them. I was even looking for those puffs so I can try to grow them with my not so green thumb, but nothing. =(

Here in Louisiana the government sends trucks around to spray for mosquitoes. If I were to grow some greens in my back yard, would the mosquito spay poison the uros? I’m guessing it would like any pesticide, just kinda hoping its different...

Whole foods has dandelions? Really? There’s a huge one that I go to and I’ve never seen dandelion greens or flowers there. I’ll have to ask the produce guy next time.
