Is it puberty?
There was some confusion from the vet about the sex, the pores are pretty large but he thought he was mistaken and the uro had more female characteristics. Now I’m confused to... Maybe someone with more experience would know the whole puberty cycle as far as males go? |

more info below: 1) How long have you owned the animal 5 months 2) Dimensions of the enclosure you are using. Measure it- do not guess or give gallon size 75 gallon reptile tank. want to say 24" wide and about 4’ long 18" tall. 3) Species (if known), length, and weight of the animal Mali. 10 inches, weight unknown at the time, too squirmy to get an accurate reading. 4) Listing of all animals kept in the enclosure referred to in the post She’s the only animal. 5) Basking spot temperature and how that temperature was measured 120-130 degrees. 6) Temperature throughout the rest of the enclosure (warm and cool areas) and how these temperatures were measured e.g. digital thermometer, stick on dial thermometer. Provide the nighttime temperatures as well. 100-105 on the hot side of the tank and about 85 degrees on the cooler side (depending, that side is next to a brick wall that retains some heat during the day) 7) Acknowledge whether you are using a UVB bulb and if so, the brand, age of bulb, and distance from the bulb to the uromastyx 8) Diet items being fed and how often each item is fed Escarole, Radichio (sp?), sweet fennel, dandelion greens, occasional lentils, bee pollen granules (small amount every day), occasional fruits for treats. Millet Seed. 9) List of the supplements being used, how much is used, and how often the supplement is used Calcium suppliment sprinkled once a week. 10) Type of substrate (cage bottom material). If this is sand, state whether it is calcium sand Millet Seed. 11) Describe your animal’s daily routine. When it exits the hide, when it retreats for the night, how long it is usually out throughout the day, is it active during this time, how much time does it spend sitting on the basking spot…. Wake up time is in the morning, the light goes on she goes to the basking spot and warms up. Pretty much basks, runs off, glass dances, goes back, eats some food, basks more. Etc, this goes on until the evening. She usually digs herself under her food dish or in a hide and goes to sleep. Thats when the lights go off. 12) Describe your animal’s appetite. She eats occasionally, I know for a fact she’s been feasting like crazy on the seed though which is why her appetite for fresh greens might be not as much as it could be. 13) Describe any unusual behaviors you are seeing or any recent changes in behavior. Also note whether any recent modifications have been made to this animal’s environment. e.g new enclosure, move to another room, new heat bulb.... Nothing’s been changed recently. no real changes in behavior other than some lethargy during shedding time (she has dull spots forming on her back, shed her tail last month, her feet a couple of weeks ago etc). 14) Describe how often this animal is handled and the type of handling. A head scritch, maybe once a day. Otherwise left alone. 15) State whether the animal has been to a vet, when that was, and whether the animal was diagnosed with a medical condition. Also state whether the uromastyx has ever had a fecal check. If so states when the fecal check was done, what was found, and if medication was prescribed. She was taken to a vet in June. No medical conditions were found, had a clean fecal. Called a beautiful, bright eyed specimen and given a clean bill of health. |

I’m using digital thermometers to monitor the ambient temperatures. I’ve got several rocks in the basking area at various heights, the tallest getting warmer than the lower ones etc. I’d say there’s about 14-18 inches of space between them and the lights. It works out pretty well, she’s able to pick whichever rock she wants. She uses the taller one to bask and then takes a nap on the lower one. I’ll see if I can cool down that other side a little bit, it’s just difficult with that brick wall on that side. That wall probably gets to 100 degrees by about 3pm because of the desert sun beating down on it. I have a mercury vapor bulb that I purchased in May with the animal. I used to have another light, a 60 watt to add some more heat but that was earlier in summer. It’s probably going to be coming back on as it cools off here and will stay there through the winter. Is there anything else besides Play Sand that’s recommended? I have issues with using a ground glass or silicone based substrate (which is what most play sand is). |

You can also use millet or finch or paretkeet seeds . Remove any large seeds and alway freeze it for 6 hours or more to kill any bugs that maybe in it .Some people use a combination of slate or tiles , with sand or seeds . |
