It could be sneezing but most likely it is snalt . It is how uros control there salt . They snort it out . BUT , it could also be signs of a respiratory infection if he was kept under poor conditions.
Since you got him from a petstore , they have probably told you all kinds of incorrect info. Please read through this forum, it is filled with excellent info. Also , fill out this questionnaire , it will help us to help you .

Welcome

There is a TON of information on this website regarding uromastyx.

Please utilize the ‘search’ command at the top of the forum for commonly asked questions and answers before posting.

You can search through current posts as well as archive posts going back several years. Use a keyword and try several searches. For example, if you are wondering about the white buildup on your uromastyx nose, type in words such as ‘white buildup’ and search the active uromastyx forum. You will see several posts that address this issue. If you would like additional reading, do the same thing under the uromastyx ‘archives’. If you wish even further reading on the subject, use different keywords e.g. white nose ect.

If you cannot find the information you are looking for, do not understand or have questions about the things you are reading, or see conflicting information and would like additional opinions on the subject, then start a thread with a title that accurately describes your situation. Example: “New uromastyx hasn’t eaten for 10 days”

When posting about a possible health and/or behavioral concern such as a decrease or lack of appetite, an animal that hides or basks a lot, a uromastyx that is losing weight or is thin, injuries, skin conditions..... try to include as many of the following answers as possible in your post:

1) How long have you owned the animal

2) Dimensions of the enclosure you are using. Measure it- do not guess or give gallon size

3) Species (if known), length, and weight of the animal

4) Listing of all animals kept in the enclosure referred to in the post

5) Basking spot temperature and how that temperature was measured

6) Temperature throughout the rest of the enclosure (warm and cool areas) and how these temperatures were measured e.g. digital thermometer, stick on dial thermometer. Provide the nighttime temperatures as well.

7) Acknowledge whether you are using a UVB bulb and if so, the brand, age of bulb, and distance from the bulb to the uromastyx

8) Diet items being fed and how often each item is fed

9) List of the supplements being used, how much is used, and how often the supplement is used

10) Type of substrate (cage bottom material). If this is sand, state whether it is calcium sand

11) Describe your animal’s daily routine. When it exits the hide, when it retreats for the night, how long it is usually out throughout the day, is it active during this time, how much time does it spend sitting on the basking spot….

12) Describe your animal’s appetite.

13) Describe any unusual behaviors you are seeing or any recent changes in behavior. Also note whether any recent modifications have been made to this animal’s environment. e.g new enclosure, move to another room, new heat bulb....

14) Describe how often this animal is handled and the type of handling.

15) State whether the animal has been to a vet, when that was, and whether the animal was diagnosed with a medical condition. Also state whether the uromastyx has ever had a fecal check. If so states when the fecal check was done, what was found, and if medication was prescribed.

Photos of the animal and/or issue can be extremely helpful.

The more questions that you provide answers to, the quicker and more accurate the return answers/replies will be.

 Sneezing??????Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I, personally, have never seen any of my uro’s "sneeze". They rub the snalt against the rocks.
do you remember what size enclosure s/he was in, and how hot it was? Not hot enought is deadly for uro’s. If he has an upper respitory infection, I’d explain to the pet store that they need to be paying your vet bill! And he probaly does need a vet if you are pretty sure he is sneezing. You aren’t soaking him, are you? Please don’t!! Just curious, how exactly, did they tell you to take care of your uro? Sadly they usually tell people what they want to hear (or what is most profitable in the store!!).

Thanks for responding....................He was kept on calcium sand in a 15 gallon tank with another large male and no uva/uvb lighting. All he did was "glass dance" constantly. his body is about 8 inches long with a tail......A concern of mine was that the guy at the pet store said that they fed him 12 crickets a day along with some fruit..When i finally got him home i put him in a large tank with 2 hides, newspaper for substrate, food dish with yams, collard greens, romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, and other fruit i read that were good for them, i also put a large basking piece of drift wood and i had a heat lamp with a 100 w bulb and then a uva/uvb basking 100w bulb. He eats alot of his food and basks on his log for long periods of time. The guy at the pet store also claimed that they like to be handled which i found hard to believe.
thanks again,

Adam

I’ve seen Goober kind of blow the liquidy snalt out, hence the splatter all over the inside of the tank at Goober-level! I can see how this can be described as ’sneezing’.

If he has only sneezed once or twice it is probably nothing to worry about but if he does it over and over I would be concerned . You want to keep a close eye on him since he was not properly cared for at the pet shop. Find a good reptile vet in your area and be ready to have him vet checked . If you can get a fresh stool sample then also have that tested for parasites . We really need more specific information to help you further like the exact measurements of your cage , types of thermometers, temperature throughout the enclosure etc. If you do not know just say so . We are here to help .Please answer the above questions

You may also want to change his diet...Romaine lettuce has no nutritional value. Instead, try endive, escarole, dandelion greens (i saw u already were on top of that), soaked lentils, mango, edible flowers such as pansies, hibiscus, etc.

No crickets, No soaking.

Good luck! :)

It could be the food they were giving it. Something had high sodium content. I noticed that too when I first got my uro. As soon as she was on a more regular diet of good stuff it wasn’t as bad, less ’snorting’ and less deposits. It took a couple of weeks though.
