Squash Hey! I wanted to start feeding my uro squash. How much of a part of his diet should it be? Should I cook it first? What kinds of Squash? Acron, butternut?
Thankyou in advance

Squash Our Uro LOVES butternut. He goes crazy for it. He will eat it over the greens any day. I usually slice it with a potato peeler and tear a slice or two in smaller pieces over his greens. Or I give him a couple of pieces when I get home from work. He’s usually eaten most of his greens by then, and I love watching him run up to my hand and snatch it from me!!!

Squash Don’t cook it - just peel and shred it (or slice as mentioned above). I use some kind of squash with pretty much every salad, just sprinkle a good fingerful over each plate. Butternut, acorn, kabocha, spaghetti, zucchini, yellow....butternut and zucchini are my favorites to keep around since they’re easy to deal with. Doublemom (I think it is) shreds a squash and packs it into an ice cube tray, then keeps the frozen cubes in a freezer bag, thawing only as needed. This is a great way to use the whole squash without it going bad if you’ve only got one or two lizards.

Squash You can also feed the squash blossoms to your Uro.. I feed squash almost every day, usually acorn or butternut uncooked but peeled..

Squash Yep :) That’s me. I use a cheese grater and shred an entire, uncooked squash. Then I freeze it in ice cube trays, and when they are frozen I pop them out into a zipper freezer bag. Once froze, you can leave them in the ice cube shapes, or what I do is use something to smash the cubes apart while they’re still frozen, so you get a bag full of frozen shredded squash bits. I use about a teaspoon a day on Gizmo’s salad, and a pinch a day for the two babies. They love it, seem to prefer the acorn squash over other kinds. They also LOVE the squash blossoms.

Squash On the risk of sounding stupid here goes.
So my gooseneck squash and zucchini are safe to feed?
are these both something that should only be fed sparingly?
Or can I feed them as long as my garden holds out?
I have fed some of the blooms and my uro loves them
What about small pieces of Pumpkin? I have though of boiling it until slightly soft and feeding some when it is ready.
Any thoughts on posting a list of things other than dandelions that we can grow at hoe to feed?
At least we know the food is safe to feed if it comes out of our own back yard.
Yes you can tell I am new here lol
Thanks everyone

Squash Yes all squash are fine as long as they are pesticide free . Mine loves zucchini. Squash have a high water content so do not be alarmed if your uro pees a lot. Just means hes well hydrated . You can grow roses , nasturtiums, hibiscus , orchids ,pansies, cilantro, parsley, sweet bell peppers for a few .
