Egg problems - help! I have 16 eggs incubating. Wed will be the 67th day which means they are about ready to hatch. Last week the eggs began to dimple then collapse which is normal, but then they continued to collapse even more then they should and spots of white mold began to appear. Collapsing means they are ready to hatch or too dry, mold means too wet - but I have both at the same time. I decreased the humidity because of the mold and eggs firmed up a bit and looked better, but then they started collapsing even more so brought humidity back up and mold increased. I applied a small amount of antifungal powder - this being info I obtained from other sites about leopard gecko and also bearded dragon eggs with mold that hatched out ok. I did open one egg that was collapsed and moldy to check last Wed and the baby looked normally developed and I thought I saw a few brief, slight movements (twitching) under neck but that was all - the yolk sac was almost as large as baby. I did see two of the eggs move - one Friday night, one yesterday afternoon so i know they are not all dead. SO does the movement mean trying to hatch but can’t and should I open egg to see, or should I wait? The temp and humidity have remained the same throughout incubation and I did not have this problem last year and I’m not sure what’s going on. Any advice at all would be helpful in attempting to save any I can if possible. Thanks

Egg problems - help! Brett, I’m curious if you have any news? I would be interested in any updates and just general info on your breeding/incubating process. I hope all is well and that some of the little guys make it.

Egg problems - help! Thank you - yeah I’m not sure what happened this year - last year everything was fine... I have all info on incubation and also pics posted on "Uromastyx World" site.
UPDATE: day 66 temp @ 93 / humidity 95% / eggs severley crumpled but still white, they seem to have stablized however. Last night I saw movement in one of the eggs and this a.m. I saw strong movement (wriggling) in another. Really hoping at least some make it - very anxious and worried...

Egg problems - help! Thank you, no - they are still incubating but I am very certain at this point that none will hatch. They seem to have all stopped developing / gone bad approx two weeks before they were ready to hatch. The two eggs I opened, which were obviously no longer viable, contained babies that were fully formed and perfectly normal appearing. I can only speculate as to what went wrong this year. The eggs dented on day 55 and began to collapse as normal before hatching, and then continued to collapse for the next 5 days. Next small spots of white mold appeared and quickly spread and the eggs caved in. So were the conditions too dry - the collapsing, or too humid - the development of mold? The temp and humidity remained constant for the entire incubation. The lid to the egg chamber I use does not form a tight seal and from what I’ve read most successful breeders use a tightly fitting lid. Maybe the vemiculite dried out too much and began drawing moisture from the eggs even though the air humidity was still good. Maybe the eggs themselves change before hatching and are more susceptible to conditions during this time. I guess I got lucky last year - I plan on creating a seal for the lid next year however and leaving only four small holes for ventilation like I’ve seen with other sealed egg box setups. Very disappointing and depressing! I welcome any feedback to help increase my (and others) hatching success rates.
