Dandelion questions I’ve read that uros LOVE dandelion flowers and greens. However, do you seriously just pick them from the park or your lawn? And as far as "greens", it’s refering the the leaves or dandelions?
I know they have to be pesticide and chemical free, but other than that, anything else I need to know before I start picking?

Dandelion questions I seriously pick them from my yard, every morning .... I just wash them really good and mix them in my daily salad for everyone. And yes, the ’greens’ refers to the leaves. They will also eat the stems. I’m also growing pansies and nastursiums for them :)

Dandelion questions Nice. Unfortunetly, Steve doesn’t eat stems of any kind. He only likes the tender part. Thanks, I’ll start picking them and washing them well.

Dandelion questions Do NOT pick them from random locations. If you know they have to be chemical free, then you should be able to answer your own question. Parks and roadsides are routinely sprayed with chemicals - fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, not to mention accumulated gunk from passing cars, peeing dogs, and goodness knows what all. If you wouldn’t be willing to eat it yourself, then don’t feed it to your animal.
If you do not treat your lawn in any way, you can use them from your own lawn. Greens can be purchased at some grocery stores - at higher end stores or ones that cater to organic hippie types like me.

Dandelion questions I’m going dandelion hunting in my friends yards so I KNOW they’re not being treated chemically. Not going to randomly picking from some dirty park...I mean, who knows if a dog has peed there or worse.

Dandelion questions Yep... good advice, never feed from a park, school, any public place, roadside... you never know what the plants have been exposed to. As a Master Gardener and having worked in a nursery, you would not believe the amount of toxic chemicals used to make a plant look "pretty". Ugh!!! It’s why I only garden organically. If you have neighbors who you know have a yard that is 100% chemical free, you could pick from them. Or if you really want to, you could order seeds and grow your own. I actually grow them indoors over winter under very bright fluorescent lights, just for my Uros :)

Dandelion questions Growing weeds...nice. Most people are trying deathly hard to get rid of them and here I am seeking them out like bees to honey. I think I’ll do the favor for my friends and pick their weeds. Only the ones that don’t use chemical of course. Thanks.
