Urofan - bloodwork normals
I appoligize for the shortness of this message, but I was wondering if you have normal values for a mali uros blood work? I will post again shortly (when I am home from work), but if you do have them and could email them to me I would appriciate it beyond measure. Long story short, I had bloodwork done on my uro becuase I noticed some abdominal bloating and changes in behavior, but my vet does not have normalized values for uros and so is comparing them to other herbivoris reptile bloodwork values. It looks like renal failure, but we cannot be sure until we find normals. Will post with more details soon. Megan |

I have been collecting blood values for years (my own as well as others) but unfortunately, I have never compiled the data. Even if I did, I would not place a lot of emphasis on the specific numbers as data was obtained from captive animals and some of the data was taken during times of ill health. I think that norms should be obtained from animals in the field not tainted animals in captivity. Mader lists some values for uromastyx aegyptia but I am fairly certain that these values were based on a limited number of animals from a zoo collection so I am not completely comfortable relying on these either. The majority of my uromastyx research and documents are boxed as I am moving soon but if you want to PM me with the specific value you are looking at (e.g- I would not place much emphasis on BUN but might on uric acid dependent on other values) with the number, I can give you some input as to whether there might be valid concern. I can also give you an idea how they compare with the uromastyx values used by Mader. Keep in mind values are somewhat subjective as many labs will use different values for green iguanas and data shows that there are some fairly significant differences in these values just based on gender. So many factors can have a bearing on norms but we can go over that when you PM. I doubt Doug or Lindsay has this information but you could certainly give them a try. |
