Pics of griffen! First off, calcium sand is NOT good for reptiles! Probably none of them. If he is under 7" long, he should still be on newspaper. Calcium sand can impact your lizard & kill him. How long is he? I had a baby rainbow, that was killed in an accident! And I know several people on here have them, including Uro_fan. What I noticed about the sand is his tail and legs appear stained. That happens with Calci sand. He also looks older than a year.
This was Muggle, my benti.

Pics of griffen! he is 8 1/2 in. long. when i got him the people at the pet store said he was less than a year. they also said sand was okay for him. but i don’t know. he is my first reptile so i just went along with what they said at the pet store.and yes his legs and tail might be stained, because when we got him he looked all brown with yellow spots(like his back) then his legs and tail turned red so we just thought it was natural(growing up). and sorry to hear about your other benti. i will switch his substrate to newspaper, but when he is an adult what substrate would you recomend?

Pics of griffen! I just wanted to point out that the original pictured Uro is a Yellow phase Saharan (U.geryi) and that the red will go away when the animal sheds as long as it is no longer on that substrate.

you are right. Apparently the people at the pet store have no idea what there talking about. I looked on deer fern farm and there it was, the picture of the yellow phase saharen. It looked excatly like when i first got him.

Pics of griffen! That was sort of where I was going with all the length questions. He doesn’t look like my benti and Rainbow Benti’s are not very common. I know I paid a chunk for Muggle!! I have a red phase geyri and an ornate, also. Paper towels would be great for him. You can put him on washed play sand if he is over 7". Or Millet, but my big uro eats too much Millet and won’t eat his greens. So, I stick to sand. At 8 1/2" your geyri is probably about two. Under a year is about 6" unless it is an Egyptian. They still have the "baby" look to them. You can almost always tell calci sand, as it stains the uro. It will come off when he is no longer on it. I guess I should tell you...forget ALL that you were told at the pet store! They give aweful advice!! Lets see, your uro is not okay in a 20L tank, it needs to be much bigger. Never soak your uro, don’t feed worms or insects, no calci sand, feed things like endive, escarole, squash, dandelion greens and edible flowers. They probably told you frozen carrots, peas & corn. Not a good staple! You need a basking spot of 120-135 degrees, warm side at 100 and cool side at 80, no lights at night, no under tank heater (UTH), they don’t like to be held, and they cool down really fast (unless you keep your house at 100 degrees), so shouldn’t be taken out of their enclosure much. Yes they whip with that tail, and yes it hurts!! Seldom bite. Never pull him out of his hide. Make sure he has multiple hides in the hot, cool and middle of the tank. I know they told you a ton of wrong stuff, but you will get the right stuff on here!! A lot of us have had LOTS of experience!
Oh, make sure ALL of your rocks are resting on the floor, and all the rocks are glued together so they won’t shift. That is what happened to Muggle, A rock shifted, somehow, and crushed him!! Never feed flowers you are not 100% sure are edible and have no pesticides. Someone here also fed their uro an azalea, and he was dead in an hour. We learn from everyone’s mistakes. Learn from us!

Yes, yes I can, unfortunately.
This is a great place for info if you are willing to use the advice to improve your husbandry.

Pics of griffen! Unfortunately, 99% of what most pet stores tell you is wrong. It’s very sad, but the truth. I wish calcium sand was illegal, but pet stores make a lot of money from it so they keep selling it, no matter that it’s a killer. Heck... even a lot of reptile or exotic vets don’t even know proper Uro care, which is very sad. I’m speaking from personal experience with that one....
Your Uro looks like a yellow Saharan. Here is a pix of my adult male Saharan, Gizmo, when he is nice and toasty under his MegaRay basking light :) so you can see what yours might look like once it gets the stained red color off and gets fattened up a bit more with a good diet and proper temps:

Pics of griffen! When you say you are unable to get veggies for a few days.. does this mean your Uro does not get food for days at a time? The veggies aren’t just for water, they are nutrients and vitamins, which are far more important then having standing water in an enclosure which needs a LOW humidity. Water should only be in the enclosure after a female has laid eggs or for newly hatched babies for a few days.

Pics of griffen! Totally agree with rt402 . Water should not be in there at all and it certaintly isnt a replacement for not feeding them.
I pick up fresh veggies atleast twice a week. I usually throw away quite a bit but I see no reason to feed them anything that is old or wilted. I rotate through different things like that too.
Costs less the ten bucks a week. Cheaper then a dog lol !

Pics of griffen! If absolute worse case scenario, you can, IN A PINCH, feed baby spring mix from the grocery. It is better than not giving the uro any food for a "couple of days". Where do you live that there is not one store that sells endive and/or escarole? I can get it from Publix, but not all Publix stores. So I have to make a special trip to get the food, but I do it every five days, because my uro’s need to eat! Ask the department head or store manager if he can stock it. You use endive in ceasar salad, so it isn’t just unheard of!! Also, you don’t need to be feeding juvanile iguana pellets every day. Sprinkle a few on top of greens once a week is enough. There is no substitute food for uro’s, except greens. check around at all the stores in your area. Guarantee you can find it at one.

Pics of griffen! okay today i did take the water out of the cage, and bought some bok choy, which is what i normally feed to him. And today, when i went to put some bok choy in his cage i thought i’ll try to hand feed him.
He ate it! Which is really good because he gets scared of people sometimes, i’m really happy!
And thanks for giving me all this great advice, i joined this forum to get advice to help my uro have proper living conditions.

Pics of griffen! bokl choy is ok but not reccomended as a every day green. you should stick with the escarole, chickory endive and dandalion as the staple. I also feed mind juvinile veggie iguana pellets but he only gets about 6 pellets a week. on occasion if he is in his hide and a friend comes over i may put out a pellet or two to get him to come out. Works like a charm every time LOL
