Does anyone keep snapping turtles?
My question is: those of you who keep snappers, what is the best way to accommodate requirements of an aquatic turtle that can reach 19+" and way 50lbs+? I may release him, but Iām not sure how well he would make it. |

He keeps it in a 20gal long right now ,but its only about 5āā so far and growing fast. He has the tank 10% land and 90% water. Im pretty sure the land is a mix of sand pebbles and bead a beast or something like it. He uses tap water treated with his culligan wich kills bacteria. He has fake plants in the water for hiding and is trying to switch to live plants. He uses something like a 25 watt blue bulb to keep a constant temp. When the turtle gets too big for his future 50gal he will be put in my pond wich is on private property, fenced in, with no fishing allowed. He will be slowly introduced to make sure there are no problems and even when hes on his own, i will check on him every few days. The pond has a giant assortment of other turtles [including other snappers] and animals that will co-exist nicely with him. If you need any help just pm me, if i cant answer it ill even call my friend to get the answer =] Good luck! xoLea |
