 De-compressed wood pellets

We are wondering if de-compressed wood pellets would work as a bedding material or substrate for toads. We took some pellets and soaked them in water where they came apart. Then we let them dry completely leaving nice and soft shredded wood. The pellets are created with natural hardwood under extreme pressure. There is no chemicals or glues according to the bag. It would seem if eco-earth or shredded coconut shell can be used then also shredded wood would be ok. What do you all think?
