 Toad ID?

Hey everyone,

I live in The Netherlands. I got this guy/girl at the reptile expo, but the seller didn’t know what type of toad/frog he/she was. He said the toad came from a plant shipment from Costa Rica. I am not quite sure if that is true, but might help. The seller also said, that it was really small when he found it, and it grew very quickly.

He/she is usually brownish-greenish, but when he/she is at its place, he/she adapts to the darker soil, and turns into olive green/very dark brown. The eyes are more yellow than red.

He/she is eating really nicely if the prey is moving, we are starting to get along. I’d like to know if anyone has any idea what kind of toad is he/she? I am guessing its from the Bufo family, but that is quite broad, isn’t it. Also, male or female?

Thank you in advance!
M.

PS: the pictures are from my dutch reptile forum account

I was told by someone what it might also be a Duttaphrynus melanostictus/Bufo melanostictus/Asian Common Toad. Do you think it is possible? Or is it a cane toad? I was also told it is a male. Is that right?

At any rate, It will be quite big, but I am prepared for that. I love this frog!

They seem rather similar.. But I think that other person might be right.. Lol. sorry. and the only way to tell as far as I have ever heard was by croaking if it does its a male if it doesn’t female. I have a cane toad that looks like yours thats why i said what I did. But I notice that a lot of toads look an awful lot a like. Lol. wait till it gets older. you should be able to tell for sure then.

Yeah, I was afraid so!: ) Nice that you have a cane toad: ) I adore them.
This guy is very small yet. What’s the rate how it would grow if it was cane toad size?
I have him since the 17th of march, and I didn’t notice any growing. Maybe it is just because I see ’m every day. It is eating well though, so I am not too worried. Do you know a good website/source which has a lot of info about toads? Maybe cane toad? Thanks a lot!

Lol. well, my cane I raised myself He is now a year old and is HUGE and eats a lot. Mine grew rather fast and is now about the size of a basket ball. and I learned everything on here and through my exp. as a Pacman breeder. I started when I was five and have picked up on a lot. Lol.
