 Norbert woke up!

YAY! The day before yesterday he graced us with his presence for the first time in months!

After soaking up them UVB’s for a while I got him some grub. He chowed down on some raw egg, about 4 large crickets and 4 live fish! SO happy that he ate! I took these pics today that I thought I’d share, with his full belly :P

(He was hatched Oct. 2012 by the way)

Here is his set up. this was taken a few months ago but nothing has changed.

Its about a 50 gallon. Surface basking spot can reach 110...120...cool side is mid 70’s. Humidity hangs between 70 and 85 percent. Substrate is a mix of sand, coconut fiber, and pete moss.
Hes been a little moody with getting him out of the case since he’s woken up however we’re working on it and its getting better :)

He look’s good. I wish mines went in hibernation lol he eats like a pig year round. When he gets bigger you should try crawfish. They are a personal favorite of red’s.

Crawfish! Sounds like a good idea- I’m always looking for more things to add to his diet.
Fond out yesterday that he really loves shrimp!

Norbert’s been quite the grump lately...I’ll put my hand in there slowly to get him out of his cage and he’ll huff and puff and wiggle his tail (from the base) a little bit then dart all the way to the other side of his cage before I can blink.

Quite moody since he woke up...

Mines will eat shrimp, but he don’t care for it much. He loves oranges and peaches aswell. An he probably is in that size where they don’t want to be touched. Red was the same way now he will let me in his cage and allow me to rub his head for about 30sec before he gets tired o it lol.

 Norbert woke up!

It’s just getting him out of the cage that can be difficult. But once I have him out he’s great!
Ill have him on my arm and put my hand in the cage and he’ll crawl further up on my shoulder to chill.
Here’s some pics I took today. He got some egg after a few hours of relaxin xP

 Norbert woke up!

Just found the card he gave me when I bought him at the San Antonio expo.

’Fass Farms. Mark and Andres Fass.’

He was a really nice guy and all his reds that he had there looked just great.

 Norbert woke up!

WOW.

Oh goodness, gorgeous.

How often do they shed?
I do not believe that in the time that I have had Norbert that he has shed at all....should I be worried?
Keep in mind that only a week..maybe two weeks after I attained him he went into hibernation and just a few days ago did he wake up....so I guess he wouldnt shed during hibernation....right?

Do they shed all at once like snakes or leopard geckos or in pieces like Iguanas?

 Norbert woke up!

They grow quick, and no they wouldn’t shed during hibernation. An no worries when he starts to fatten up a bit, it will feel like that you never get to see his true color lol. An they shed I guess like an iguana. What ever falls off while he is on the move, but you have to pay attention around the toes and tip of the tail where if the shed on those parts don’t come off can lead to lost of the toe or tip of tail.

 Norbert woke up!

He has been eating so much! I’m so happy. It seems like he gourds himself every other day. Today he ate some shrimp and chicken, and 10 large crickets!

Looks to me like he’s about to shed, his feet are looking a pit pale and dull and it looks like he has a scale on the tip of his nose/face that it coming up.

THank yo for the advice! :) Ill keep repticzone updated

Norbert shed today! This is the first time hes shed since Ive had him. almost perfect shed! Just a little bit on the very tip of his tail that didnt come off but rolled off easily :)

He looks more like the pic you posted reptictale. The white is more bright and hes just all around brighter. Oh! and he has some red specks on the top of his head that he didnt have before. Looks AMAZING! I swear he’s doubled in size (exaggeration) but he does look quite a bit bigger.

:3

He is male. The red seems to be more vibrant every day, so cool!

He has stopped with the aggressive behaviour when I get him out of the cage, no more tail wiggling and huffing any more.

And today he ate 4 large goldfish and a few large crickets, growing so big :’3

No he was a very picky eater. Only liked egg yolk and fish, nut as he got bigger he got less picky about it. Even meal worms were a no go when he was small. You can try to see.

Another thing that he might like is what red loves. I built him a den vary easy to make and they love it. all you have to do is get ply wood cut a top of and then 2 sides and using a staple gun staple them together. The burry it in their substrate leaving only the front end open.
