 My new baby

I finally was able to get a Tegu =) He is so cute, I got him through UPS this morning and he already ate 20 baby roaches. I think he is adjusting well.

Laura Roberts in Florida. She has an ad in the classifieds section of thetegu website.

Right now I am very upset, as he escaped his cage yesterday, and we have been unable to find him... At 3 weeks old, he can be anywhere =(

I know Chris, this forum is really slow. No, I have never found Cazic =( I was able to get one of Ty’s black and whites he had around the 4th of July. Ssra is almost 15" now, and eating/shedding like crazy. It has been fun, but I still feel sad that Cazic escaped =( I have to get a picture of him soon - I just have not had the time...

 My new baby

I went to San Diego and other parts od So Cal for a 10 day vacation, visiting friends and family and some reptic zone folks. I made a point to stop in to LLL Reptiles, the small store in San Diego to buy supplies. They had B&W Argentine tegus for 199.00 and a B&W Columbian for 49.99

The Argentina’s were still young and green the Columbian was older and very food aggressive, probably half starved,I just happened to be there at feeding time..the girl feeding the Columbian actually jumped back as she opened the sliding door and the lizard lunged out at the plate of food.....lol, I took the food from her and placed it in the enclosure and actually hand fed a cricket to it. I wanted it but did not bring it home. My trip home was still 72 hours away.

Is it true that the Columbians just wont tame down??

For me I don’t like the word tame at all. More as they get or accept you being around them. For example I read that everyone handles their Arg. Tegus to tame them, but for me I let red be red an I can hold him if needed, but I don’t if I don’t have to. To my experience Colombians are more hyper for better use of words I don’t try to tame any of my reptiles so I wouldn’t know if they can be.

Well I ’m a touchy feely kinda guy ...I want close interaction on a physical level. If I can’t have it on my lap or riding in the car or at the park licking little kids then maybe I should spend the extra 200 and get a Argentine...

Nothing is better than having the love you give returned from a creature you never thought could express attachment.

My many other reptiles are that conditioned (tame) to human interaction ...including the reticulated python.

No reptile likes this. Correction no healthy reptile likes this. If you keep your temps at 125 an feed him whole foods, no cat food or dog food not even the Arg. Tegu will like to be held after maybe 3 minutes. If you want something that fits what you said get a dog.

just because you can’t do it with yours doesn’t mean it can’t be done....it depends on the reptile & "the handler"

CP is one our most knowledgable members & has some of the healthiest, well cared for reptiles on this forum.........having a easy to handle reptile does not mean its not healthy...perhaps its "handler" has
spent some time with it & has built an associative bond with him...

I like dogs too....

Dude...read the thread ...Start to finish...then maybe you’ll see just exactly what I am talking about.
Notice the huge time lag as you view the dates...and my comment about that as well.

And I wasn’t having a conversation with you to begin with, and I wasn’t asking for specific advice...if I wanted that I would research , I was asking for opinions and yours was that they were "hyper" a purely subjective term.

What is hyper...what is the norm... what is the standard you base that on...what personal experience did you reveal (none)...usually I will say from my point of view and my experience with MY reptile this is what I find....over the course of x months/ years..But I don’t start with a hard line ,has to be this way or nothing , view point.

Your attempts to be helpful are poorly received to say the least.

When I say hyper I am speak in term as they are more out there. I have raised both Colombian an Arg. Tegus an I for one don’t see a difference in the two except I been bit by 4 clombians an no Arg. yet, but if I had to choose a difference in the two it would be the Colombian is more an the only word I can think off that is simple an to the point is hyper, alert, fiery, haha they are just more to take in I guess. As for taming I don’t like it I don’t show off my reptiles like dogs for me I hand feed em, make sure there temps are at 135 the humidity is at 70% 10 inches of dirt x sand mix lots of hides an whole food.
