Help with my red  hi all i have a red tegu nearly a year old, problem is im having a hard time trying to tame him, hes fine watching me or walking around my bedroom but when i try and hold him he does the death roll and scratches me to bits, i dont want to stress him out so i end up putting him back so im not getting anywhere. should i of gone for a b/w? i keep hearing how tame they are

Help with my red  It may be in the way you approach your animal, or just the particular animal itself. Not every animal is going to display the same degrees of "tameness" and each will have it’s own individual "personality". As a whole red tegus are generally accepted as being on par with Argentine tegus in the degree of "tamess" they can achieve.
However, one must also realize that these are reptiles, not domestic pets and you may never be able to tote around with your tegu as some others might. All you can do is work with the animal with an approach that is non threatening and learn to read your animal. So with that all said, what exactly are you doing when trying to "tame" it?

Help with my red  hi thanks for your reply, its quite strange hes almost changed over night, the last couple of days iv been holding him while on the computer and hes been quite happy to sit with me and be stroked for aslong as i want him to, hopefully hes realised now im not a threat
