Put him in a 20 gallon long tank for now. Get him of that wood bark, and get some dirt mixed with sand.

i had a small layer of dry reptibark there so he can bask in a dry area but the rest of the cage is bedabeast substrate. i went searching for him today because i was worried he got out(and he did) so i dug up the enclosure so now the bedabeast and reptibark are mixed in.
i think reptibark and bedabeast mix is okay for the tegu as i read on most sites...should i mix some sand to it?

glass tanks are cruel to w/c tegus and most animals IMO. rubbermaids are also a whole ton cheaper, lighter, and still hold alot of humidity. i just don’t see why people like glass tanks so much more than rubbermaids, other than they look nicer.

Im gonna have to agree with you man. I love plastic tanks. Easy to clean, light weight, and easy humidity control. If i didnt have three 10 gallon tanks, 125 gallon, and 250 gallon from when I use to keep fish i would totally use all plastic tanks. Plus you can stack plastic tanks easily with a shelf due to their weight. Nice tegu by the way. I would mix in the sand. It helps keep humidity and holds a burrow.

I raised a Colombian Golden tegu in a glass tank. He is now 34 inches. I also got a baby Colombian Golden tegu in a 55 gallon long, and he is doing awesome. anything is bad for a WC reptile, but a Rubbermaid is not the best at all. Rubber is a conductor of heat, so you are going to have to watch it, and make sure it doesn’t fry your tegu.

reptictale92, there are hardly any CB columbian tegus available, and there are no CBB columbian tegus that are bred in North America, or any other places around the world that I know of

as you can see,he likes to dig holes, but how do i make the substrate so that he can make a burrow without collapsing (if they do make real burrows?)?
