I also got a critter keeper for Blackie. It has a hatch in the to so you can drop in food, and water. She did make a web at the top, but is okay when I open it. She is timid, and won’t try to climb out. Hope that helps.

 BLACK WIDOW!

I’ve kept many black widows, and I’ve never done anything different from any of the other wild spiders I’ve picked up. Just a small bug cage or peanut butter jar, and feed them once a week. From my experience they’re not ornery and they don’t try to escape when you open the jar.

Also, don’t worry about it killing you in 5 seconds, because that’s just ridiculous. As far as I know the only recorded deaths have been in young infants and the elderly, and even then there’ve not been very many. It’s still a dangerous bite though, and you’d need to go to the hospital if you were bitten so you should be careful.

 BLACK WIDOW!

Hi there everyone,

I’ve been searching and searching for a female widow. Do you guys have any ideas about where I might find one? I’ve done tons of research and am very prepared. Oh also, only 1% of bites result in death, fyi. Not that I plan to get bitten :)

Hey Anneke!

Based on your profile info, your location will probably make it more difficult for you to find one. Black widows tend to prefer the more southern states in the U.S. because of the warmer climate. I’ve had the best luck finding widows by looking in our wood piles and in dark corners of disused or rarely used buildings. Widows like quiet, undisturbed areas. I’m not sure how urbanized your area is and I don’t have experience living in a city, so I can’t offer any better suggestions than that. Also, the vast majority of the widows I’ve found have been female. Good luck!

Your most likely not telling the truth based on your context but if you are I do not recommend it.

Your best bet would be to try looking in a banana tree because that’s where they like to hang out. I don’t try to keep any spiders because I hate them. If you want to avoid getting bit like most people do, you should try to wear protective clothing while hunting in a banana tree.
God bless, Jason Irelan
