BTS on the loose I am trying to trap a Blue-tongued Skink that has been living under a porch for several weeks and do not know what is the best way to trap it with out harming it. It is about 12 inches long and looks to be in good general health, possibly someones pet they released. Any suggestions would be welcome. I do not want to see it die in the coming colder months.

BTS on the loose I would put some food in a bowl and sit and watch for him. they will only eat when warm enough, Put in some ground beef or turkey mixed with some veges and a little fruit like graded apples, grapes or banana.
so tomorrow after it warms up like to at least 75-80 fill a shallow dish with food maybe in the side of a large box so that when he comes to eat, you can capture him with the box. You will need to be very quiet and it may take a while. go to the closest area to where you think he is. Keep me posted.

BTS on the loose I just looked and see you are in Indiana. what part? If you are near chicago, it will be a wet and cool week. Is there any way you could rig up a baskting site near the food?the nights may be in the fifties here and he amy start wanting to brumate. Attract him with food and light/heat.

BTS on the loose Best bet might actually be to just dig in there and catch him by hand. If it were warmer, using one of those cage-traps would be good too, but if it’s not warm enough for him to be hungry then that’s not going to work.

BTS on the loose Can you get under the porch and dig him out? a little stress for him is better than freezing to death. I am sure he will get over it. I would wear gloves, however, because they can bite when scared and the bite can be quite painful. You will need to position people at all open sides of the porch in case he decides to run off. Are you sure it is a BTS? wouldn’t want any surprises-LOL-like a gator or something.

BTS on the loose For 10-15 bucks you can go to a hardware store and get one of those cave-exploration-flashlights that strap to your head. They’re great for illumintating your field of vision perfectly, so you can have your hands free to crawl, dig, and grab with.

BTS on the loose Great idea, but if you are broke you can duck tape a flashlight to a bike helmet. Not as fashionable, but effective. So tell us what you decided to do and the results. It sure is cold and wet around the chicago area.
