 Care Questions

Hello,

1. Is this feeding schedule suitable for a juvie blue tongue skink?



Sunday: some greens with healthy cat food

Monday: some greens with healthy cat food, sprinkle vitamins

Tuesday: some greens with healthy cat food

Wednesday: some greens with healthy cat food, sprinkle vitamins

Thursday: some greens with healthy cat food

Friday: some greens with healthy cat food, sprinkle vitamins

Saturday: some greens with healthy cat food



*and every so often I stick some fruits in the salad.



2. At what age should I begin feeding a blue tongue an adult diet?

personally, I think feeding everyday is not needed. every other day or so would be fine. Also, I would lay off the vitamins. I suppliment wiht the vitamins and minerals once a week. Calcium is added at every feeding. I would also switch from cat food to dog food. while young regular canned dog food is fine but as they age, go with a senior or a low fat food. I would add some veggies in the diet, not just greens.

At about a year to year and half is when I switch them to a diet with more veggies and greens added to it. i still feed about 60% meat, 40% greens/veggies.

i would take the dog/cat food out and add in feeder insects like crickets roaches etc

also give more than just greens add squash and other veggies too

bluetongue skinks. net has a great food list

babies need much more protein than plant matter

I personally feed the dog food is ok. I do think that BTS need more protein in their diet than what bluetongueskinks. net recommends PERIOD. No matter if its baby or adult.

I guess i would add crickets/roaches, etc. three times a week and the cat/dog food on the alternate days. Salads should always be offered, even if they don’t seem interested right now. BTS can get overweight and when young need to develop muscles and coordination skills that dead food can’t give them. when they chase prey, they get exercise and it helps develop their muscles. Depending on what type of dog food/cat food you use, you can cut down on their vitamins because the dog food/cat food usually is fortified with vitamins. I would still buy a calcium with no phosphorous/no D3 and add it daily to ensure proper bone development and make sure you have a good UV light as well. Add a multivitamin and calcium with D3 twice weekly.

ok i guess i have always heard that they are kind of like beardies in the fact that they need more protien as babies than adults

oh well i have never had a baby only an adult lol so now i know
