 Gold Skinks?

Hi, i would really like to get a pair of gold skinks, because from the limited amount of info i have found on them they just seem like interesting lizards, however i don’t feel content with the knowledge i have, so if anyone here could provide info on such things as enclosure size, sex identification, humidity/heating requirements, etc, it would be greatly appreciated.

 Gold Skinks?

Hello:
I do believe the Chinese Golden Skink is (Sphenomorphus indicus). They used to come in quite frequently though I have seen very few of them in the last few years. I think they are still imported on occasion.
I had a group of four of them for about six years. They were kind of a dingy gold that leaned heavily to an olive color. They were great animals that eventually were dubbed the "Velociraptors." They were kept in a woodland terrarium that was open and barren at one end. I would throw the crickets in and they would come out of nowhere in a feeding frenzy. They were funny to watch as they were so excited they would often miss the crickets and end up chasing them around in the planted area.
If you get a chance to get these great little skinks jump on it. They’re very active and just plain fun to observe.
Have a Great day!!!

Thanks for the response. Where did you find them, because since i decided i was interested in getting a pair i couldn’t even find them at two reptile shows that i went to? Do they have live birth? I would even like to give a try at breeding them. The small amount of information i’m finding all seems to be conflicting. What temperature ranges/humidity worked well for you?

 Gold Skinks?

Hello:
Judging from all the skinks I’ve kept over the years I would have to say that I think all of the Goldens that I had were females so I never got a chance to breed them.
I think they were actually imported from China though I’m not positive about that. I will check with some dealer friends that I have and see if they can let me know if any can be had. I know I haven’t seen any in at least two years but that doesn’t mean none are coming in.
It’s kind of funny that the people that tell you about the evils of buying wild animals are often (but not always) the same people that haunt the importers for anything "new and exciting" that might come in. If you’re not there when boxes are being opened lots of stuff disappears without ever making it to any price list.
I hope you find some and I’ll keep an ear to the ground as well!
Have a Great Weekend!!!

Alright, thank you very much for your help. Well, i suppose as a whole, the hypocracy and contradiction disposition that people display leaves something to be desired, but on the note of the skinks, what enclosure size/heating gradient would you recomend?

 Gold Skinks?

Hello:
A 20 gallon long would be a perfect sized terrarium for a pair or trio. I kept all four of the girls in a tank this size that had lots of cage furniture in it.
As far as I have seen the adult size seems to be around 8-9". That’s how big mine were and I had them for quite a while.
There’s a show coming up this week so I’ll check for some.
Have a Great Day!!!
