 Chat room forum

Hey how about an area where members can go to chat to each other about there pets and another 1 maybe for chattin in general. Chat rooms would be a great idea to have. I’m sure you can hire people for free doug to monitor these rooms for you and take appropriate action against any members that misuse it. Why not have a trial period and see how it goes.

What do you guys think???

Thats easily sorted. have another room for the youngsters. or make the rooms child friendly. and have sum1 nominated each day to keep an eye on the room and report any member that acts inappropriatly.

I agree on a chatroom. It would need to be child friendly. There was talk about one coming up about a year or two ago. Right now Doug is just busy, but I’m sure eventually he will get to one. Then maybe he can hire the people who are on here often and that can be trusted that we could either nominate or have doug choose.

yea i made a suggestion like a year or two ago about a chatroom, and i know doug is a busy guy so i just went and made my own chat, i just have to add that it would be good to have a kiddy chat and an adult chat because frankly if you’re over 18 why in the world would you want to talk to 10 and 12 year olds?? it should also be noted that many of the "strict" chats have a large following of people who despise them for moderators power tripping and booting/banning people for idiotic reasons (and many times no reason at all)

Hello,

I know I promised chats for about 3 years now. I have worked on making a couple of them. The first problem we had was writing a chat engine. I decided that I would most likely just use a chat engine that was already written and write it into RZ. The second hold up was the fact that I have to continually update scripts here as I find bugs and usually work on several scripts at a time and I didn’t have the concentration to work on the chat part of the site. So eventually I did experiment with different chat engines and even wrote a quick chat, but in mid 2005 I became sick and with the exception of fixing bugs did no programming for the remainder of the year. 2006 I was bogged down with work. If you notice I don’t think I answered any questions on this forum for a while, but now I have more time since my work schedule has changed this week. However instead of continuing with a chat, we have a problem with the the forums growing, so I will be concentrating on re-writing the forums for the next 3 months and possibly moving RZ to a bigger and faster server.

Your_only_nightmare is also correct, I would have to put up a third server to handle the bandwidth. Which really isn’t a problem. I have the 3rd server on hand and can probably come up with a line to connect it to.

Ameivaboy, RZ is definitely not appreciated much by the other sites and chats. Some mods have been aggressive enough that they messaged members and posted in forums that they were going to have me ban members from here because of problems associated with their sites. Some sites do have that power trip and ego problems and banning for crazy reasons. These sites do give me some motivation. I don’t believe in bad mouthing other sites, so in turn I just write scripts and features that they don’t have. Eventually we will write in that chat so there will be a place for members to come that don’t want to go to other chat sites. It won’t be an open chat, they would be more scheduled. I have some ideas on how this will work and how it will stay under control.

So we will see how everything goes after re-writing the forums.
