Can you post a picture of it, or at least a description -- For example, is it a terrestrial salamander or a semiaquatic newt? If you give me a better idea about that, I can give you some specific suggestions.

Does it have a brightly colored belly? If so it could be a firebelly newt... I think it sounds like some type of newt... you can feed it small pieces of chopped earthworms (or whole worms if they are very tiny in size)... also pinhead crickets, sowbugs or other tiny bugs... tangling the food item on the tip of a piece of straw (from a corn broom) will usually tempt them to eat, especially if they are underwater.

Are you sure you can’t post a picture, to help identify more easily what species you have?

Well, if he’s a tiger salamander, he must be a baby one (newly transformed from the aquatic larval stage). So, please keep in mind that, if you care for him properly, he will eventually grow to a much larger size (at least 8" long, sometimes up to 1 foot) and need a bigger tank! But, the foods he requires are still basically as I have described.

Well, they also eat earthworms... but honestly if you hate handling bugs so much (even crickets) salamanders may not be the best pet for you... maybe you should try something with a vegetarian diet, like an iguana... :-)

lol i would probably give anything for an iguana but somebody (cough my mom cough) probably wouldn’t let
me get one.though i have just found out about a kind of salamander, a axolotl or something that I could get because its aquatic and it doesn’t eat bugs. like a dream come true! = )
