Please help with emperor newt (crocodile newt) questions

First of all, i have heard that you need to cut the heads off of mealworms before feeding them to them, is that true? And what is the best way to go about adminstering their crickets and mealworms to them? It seems they all drown in the aquatic part of the setup before they get eaten. Do they eat dead ones? I am just wondering because mine hasn’t eaten in 3 days, figured he might be acclimating to his new home but need to know this stuff anyways. I have found very little info about any of this.

no you do not need to cut the head off just make a small hole in the meal worm so its digested easily
feed them with tweezers and yes they do
