 Rescue Advice needed! Tiger Salamander?

I was cleaning out a room in my newly purchased home today when I opened the window to find a black and yellow salamander curled up in the dirt inside the window well. I watched it for awhile and saw no movement, so I VERY gently poked him with a stick. He moved slightly, but not much. I closed the window back up and tried to ID the salamander using the internet and I THINK it is a tiger salamander. I opened the window up again to check on it and to be sure of its markings. When I opened the window, it turned its head to look at me. We watched each other for awhile. Then it very very slowly crawled into a burrow in the dirt.

I guess what question is this...could the window well possibly be the salamander’s home or do you think it’s trapped? The window well is corrugated metal that is around 3 feet deep, straight down. It is under a deck so the area is cool and moist (seems like a good place for a salamander). But I wasn’t sure because of the sides of the window well.

I honestly don’t know much about salamanders and I want to make sure this one is ok. Any advice or info (if it can get out of the window well on its own) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Sounds like his home...

Is he fat/healthy looking? If it is all black with yellow spots, he is most likely a spotted salamander. When they are found, they are usually super slow and barely move.

 Rescue Advice needed! Tiger Salamander?

heres my caresheet for tigers
----------------------------------

Care SHEET (Tiger Salamanders)
HEATING/LIGHTING: No UVB or heating required, but do well in 60 through 75 degrees

SUBSTRATE/HOUSING: Should have 5inch deep Sphagnum moss and/or pot soil mix Ideal substrate would be soil and NOT gravel or sand (kept very moist). Another great choice is forest bedding coconut fiber substrate

Salamanders MUST have a swimming area, and do best in a LARGE clear plastic storage box (with air holes)... This holds 10 times more humidity than a glass tank and provides a sense of protection. (1-2 Salamanders per 20 gal is also exceptable)
In terrarium habitats, no more than one adult Salamander per 7 gallons. Also they should be able to access a dark cool hiding spot.

Put slabs of bark for burrowing under around the tank.

Spray down cage 1-2 times a day

put a very stable top on it... or else they will climb out, they are very strong.

LIGHTING/HEATING: Require no UVB or heating.
Do best at 60-75

WATER NEEDS: Require swimming area with a filter.
And if swimming area is not big enough for a filter than change water EVERY day.

MUST be treated, well, or spring water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or chlorine WILL kill them.

DIET/FEEDING: Tiger Salamanders are generally obese creatures. They’ll eat anything that moves in front of them. Diet mainly includes insects (appropriately sized) should be fed 2 times a week. They have very a slow metabolism and adjust to feeding intervals well. Salamanders kept in pond set-ups will often eat small fish. NOTE: goldfish are not a healthy meal for any amphibian (use guppies and rosy reds). Also, DO NOT BUY Salamander and Newt pellets is a waste of money! If your tiger salamander is Very Skinny feed it a pinky mouse, this will give him the fat, calcium and vitamins he needs to be healthier again(after feeding pinky mice do not feed for a week and then slowly work your way up to feeding more insects a feeding time, untill original diet is sustained)

Feed them 5-6 crickets 1-2 times a week. Every three weeks dust crickets in calcium supplement.

Mealworms, wax worms, earth worms, nightcrawlers, grasshoppers, and butterflies and moths can also be fed as treats.

Best fed in water bowl so they don’t accidently swallow substrate.

SEXING AND CHARACTERISTICS: Females are larger than males in width and have shorter tails. While males have enlarged cloaca (cavity which reproductive canals open) and have longer tails.

Males cloaca swells during breeding season.

They will be burrowed most of the day since they are mostly nocturnal.

REMEMBER: Handle them as Least as possible.. the oils in your skin will dry them up and kill them.. or cause rashes and rubbing off of skin which will lead to infection and death.

ALSO
I will post pics tomorrow so you can ID them

another cool thing you could do is this

ok, put a water bowl in there with bottled water or dechlorinated tap water
and make the water bowl deep and wide enough to swim in

Then you ID the sex of the salamander and buy one of the opposite sex.
put it in there with it and dump crickets in there (or worms and rosy red guppies in water bowl)
and let them start there own little population in there
You could then when the eggs hatch take out the larvae and raise them in captivity untill they turn into salamanders.
you could keep some as pets, sell some, or release them in to the wild in a fishless pond or back in with the others.

Thats just a cool projecy I thought of sooooo, yeah
Good Luck with them!

i will bet you $1 million that if you just toss a male and a female tiger salamander together in the same tank with a deep water dish/water area, they wont breed

it takes more then that to make mole salamanders (not just tigers) breed, whether it’s light cycles, rain, temps, stars, or a combination of them it is very difficult to breed them in captivity

I didnt say that
I said they might. Its done in captivity infact im doing it now... mine will be laying anytime now (they are courting, male leading around water area, etc...)

Its done by sertain temps, humidities and feedings, "rain" days, and other things you have said.
one female has eggs in her and my male cloaca is swelling
I will show you pics when they lay.
Thankyou for putting in that input every thing you said is true, but if things are done right you will get eggs.
sry I should have mentioned how to breed them in one of my other posts. It was just an idea I got for him or her
thank you again
