I was outside and I was told to pick up a ice cream container,so I did, but when I lifted it up there was a cute little salamander or newt. I don’t know what it is really. Its like one and a half inches long. It is kinda black and its belly is kinda tanish-black And it has a blue tail. i don’t know what it eats. I don’t know what it is, and I don’t know what it likes! Can someone PLEASE help me!!!!!!!!!

well, my guess is some kind of salamander, because most newts are pretty aquatic and spend a lot of time in the water. if it is a salamander it probably eats small insects, worms, etc. you could also try VERY SMALL tadpoles, (my friend’s sally eats those)

make sure you keep it moist with damp soil/leaves. and if you don’t get it to eat, letting it go would be best;]

hope it helps?

Are you sure it isn’t a five lined skink hatchling? Here is a picture..

Baby Skink

That’s the only thing I can think of with a blue tail. Was he fast? They need lots of places to hide and will eat tiny bugs (worms, crickets, etc.)
