Feeding Problem So last night I took a leaf worm (bought at petstore) just a long thin worm, and put it in the tongs and dangled in front of my newt. They are new and haven’t eaten since i brought them home on tuesday. anyway, he grabbed it, i let go. well, he spit it out. now i’m not sure if it was too long and he couldnt eat it all???? SO, then i thought, okay, i’ll cut it in 1/2. which i’m sorry, that’s just really cruel and disgusting. but i did it. then the newt didn’t want it. so i just dropped it in the tank. could that be the problem they are too long? i don’t want to try to giving crickets cause i bought them last night and even the smalls are bigger then their heads, so i don’t want them to choke on them. arghhhhhhhh are frozen blood worms really big too? I don’t know what other options i have??

Feeding Problem It could be because it was too long if he actually tried to eat it, it’s possible he didn’t like the taste of it, or maybe he was tired of you "dangling that freaking thing in my face again!"(mine do that when they are sick and tired of me trying to make them eat). I don’t think frozen bloodworms are that big. They come in a cube anyway so you can chop it up.
Also, don’t forget that they went through a lot to get to you and might need some time alone. You can try covering up 3 sides of the tank which will give them more privacy and help them adjust sooner.
Good luck!

Feeding Problem Okay, thanks! I need to just relax! i’m getting so friggen uptight over them from not eating! haha! I’ll just leave them alone for a bit and try again in a day or two. i’m going to try the bloodworms cause i hate these live ones and cutting them up, is just nasty when they are alive! lol Do you defrost the cubes a little bit before putting them in the tank or just plop them in?

Feeding Problem I’ve never used them yet but other people like to defrost them on a plate first so it doesn’t foul up the water.
I know it’s really hard to relax when they are not doing what they should be doing. I think I stress out more over my amphibians than my children. But at least I know my husband will take care of the children. I KNOW he won’t take care of my amphibians. Try to forget about them for a couple of days. RELAX!

Feeding Problem thanks. last night was the first time it actually came out of hiding looking at me, and i believe was ready to eat. so i gave it a piece of frozen blood worms, and it took it just fine and ate it all. so hopefully i’m on the right track for eating!
thanks!
