 Purchase from Kingsnake.com

HI, I was just wondering if anyone has every purchased anything from Kingsnake.com and if there was any trouble with what they bought? I’m looking for FBN’s and I all the petstores here can’t order any types of newts, so Kingsnakes has Paddle Tail Newts. Will they be okay when shipped? I just hate the thought of shipping the newts and they die during shipping or right after I get them.

Any information would be great!!!

Thanks!
Linda

I never tried ordering from them.

Just so you know, paddletails are extremely aggressive. They will bite, maim, hurt, and kill each other if protective measures are not taken. You must have plenty of hides and plants to help prevent them from seeing each other. I have 2 living together who at first fought but now live in their own section. It also helps to feed them in their own part of the tank.

Other than that, I love these guys! They have such distinctive personalities!

Is it better to just have one then? Or will two be okay, long as you take preventative measures? I am gone all day so I don’t want to worry about coming home to injured Newts. I really wanted to have the FBN’s. I just can’t locate them anywhere. :-(

If it’s 20 gallons I think you’ll be safe. Try to make sure they are the same size because the larger will go after the smaller. As long as you have plenty of hides and plenty of plants you should be okay. Watch for any signs of aggression such as chasing the other, wrestling, and tail fanning.

You might find that you’ll like these better than the FBNs. I had them but they weren’t as personable as the paddletails. They came to greet me when I approached the tank whereas my FBN ignored me. Oh well, to each his own.

Good luck!

Okay, well I was in luck and found a pet store that said on Thursday or Friday he should have a shipment of a variety of newts, so we’ll see!!! I’m just hoping he gets them! I never realized how hard it would be to find them. The nice thing is, it’s giving me plenty of time to set up the tank, clean it, decorate it and have it all ready for the new guys!!!! Thanks again for your help!

I have two paddle tails living together in a 20 gallon tank. I’ve only had them fight once, and it was during feeding time. No one was hurt . I also have several places for them to hide. They are really cool newts and are very curious. Just be careful during feeding time and keep an eye on them. Don’t mix them with any other kind of amphibian, though!
