 Breeding Mice and ASF

YaY I think i finally found the right place to post this question LOL

I’m breeding feeder mice and ASF’s and I’m wondering how many I could put in a lab cage that is:
L 10.5" W- 5.25"- H4.5"

I was thinking 1.4 or 1.5 mice and 1.3 or 1.4 asf

Any input?

I’m looking for the cheapest and most space efficient way to breed mice, asf, and if any better ideas then 1.7 in concrete mixing tubs for rats, let me know

:-)

I don’t know anything about ASF but I do know in general with mice I have been told not to put more than 2-3 mice per cage with the floor space of a 10 gal fish tank which is 24 1/4 L x12 1/2 W x12 3/4 H including its frame so I would guess that with your cage I wouldn’t do more than 2 mice per cage and even that might be pushing it depending on the mice especially if you plan to leave litters in there for any amount of time, if I were you I would put a pair of females in each cage (at most) and then have a male circulate through them that way you had staggered litters and the moms got a break from the male. :) GL

I’m looking to produce for snake food, so i’m looking for maximum production. I need litters from each mom every 3-4 weeks.

well you could I guess leave a male in there with them, I would go with a bit larger cages if you are gonna do that though but it is really up to you :) GL

Actually if you want healthy litters you should give the girls a break now and then and have staggered litters. Your girls could die from over breeding or they could start having smaller, sickly litters from over breeding. You can do what you want. They’re your mice but I’d be careful or they won’t last long.
