Baird’s rat snake- first time owner

I just bought a healthy Baird’s rat snake at a reptile show yesterday. She’s about a foot long right now.
Apparently she was the only one in the show. I’m so happy. I went there looking for one just to see it in person, because I thought there was no way my parents would let me take it home. My friends convinced me to ask anyway and I got lucky. :D

She’s my first reptile, so I’m very concerned that I do it right. I have done research on them but it seems that I can’t find care sheets that verify each other. Some have said they are sensitive to too much humidity (but never say how much is too much), others have said they dehydrate easily as babies...I’ve read that you can have them at room temperature as long as it doesn’t drop below 75 degrees during the day, but I’ve also read that the hot side should be around 80. It’s mind boggling. I guess this is because they aren’t common like corn snakes.

Currently she’s in a medium critter keeper type cage because it felt more secure to me than the slidey type ones. I wanted to limit her space so she doesn’t feel overwhelmed until she gets used to being with me. Her cage is around 77 degrees acording to my thermometer, which was the only type of digital one available at the show. I kept her little cup that she came in when I bought her and put it in the cage (I’ll remove it soon) along with another hide and a water dish with shallow water. She sits in it occasionally but only for a minute at a time thankfully. I think it’s just a new sensation for her to be able to put her whole body in the water.

I do have a zoo med heat pad but I don’t know what kind of thermostat to get. Also the manual that came with it says not to use it when you have paper towels as flooring for your reptiles, which is what I’m planning to use for a while. Years of lurking on this site tells me they probably just say that so they don’t get sued but I’d rather ask anyway.

I know I probably look pretty bad right now, but it was a once in a lifetime thing. I had been hoping that when I got my firstsnake it would be a Baird’s. I would have been much better prepared if I had known I’d be able to get her BEFORE the show.
So now I feel bad about not having everything perfect for her. :( But I really want to make it better and that’s why I’m asking for help.

We’ll be going to a pet store soon to pick up some pinkies, so I’ll be able to buy anything that I need while we’re there.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I really appreciate it.

I’m attaching a picture I took when she was out exploring today.

Also, she does this thing where she gets up to the top of the tank and sits on this little narrow ledge. When she tries to come down she falls and I’m worried she’ll hurt herself if she does it over and over again. Will she not do it as much if I get her some driftwood or a vine to climb on?

Found out my info, from someone I saw on deviantArt with some Baird’s. This poor forum really has died. :(
