Skin issue? I got my carpet python on august 4th. Shes been great, she hasn’t refused a meal. I noticed the past few days shes been soaking in her disk. Shes been in it for at least 3 days now. I took her out today to take some pictures and within a couple of minutes when all the water was dried off her she looked completely dry and nasty not bright and smooth, her eyes didn’t look right and she looks like she has white spots on her? She also hasn’t shed since the day before I got her. (it was in the cage when the guy dropped her off at my house)
I want to say its some kind of bacteria problem or something, I think ill take her to the vet on Monday if this continues. Any ideas?

Skin issue? Now I’m not saying you abuse your snakes (obviously, you’re taking it the vet lol) but if you go to the BRB forum a lot of rescued snakes look like that. Usually that stems from being dehydrated. Now what’s confusing is carpets really do not need humidity (especially compared to a BRB). My other two guesses are either it IS a bacterial infection or the snake has mites. Good luck and that’s a good sign she’s eating.

Skin issue? Hmm, I don’t understand why shes been in her water dish for so long and NOW starting too look like that though, at first she was nice and healthy looking. I do admit her humidity isn’t perfect, but I mist her cage twice a day or more. But thanks for the input we’ll see how this goes.

Skin issue? Does she have enough hides? When snakes don’t feel secure, sometimes they will hide in their water bowls.
It’s really really REALLY dry where I live... all year round. I have absolutely never sprayed my carpets (I have to spray all my boas every single day) and they always have perfect sheds and they are nice and shiny. Try lowering her humidity a lot. Trust me these guys come from some pretty arid areas (have you seen Australia?)

Skin issue? one thing i heard from another herp is that if you use vegie oil it would help with mites and mite eggs, she also said that it would put moisture into the scales. you could try it if you want but im not saying that i will solve anything, im just throwing ideas out there.

Skin issue? if your snake is spending that long in the water bowl. it is a good indicator of mites.

Skin issue? I took her to the vet today. He said that its just dry and hopefully when she sheds things will be better but if I see any change ill just take her in again. She can still see just fine, she was striking at everything that walked by. That was one of my main worries because her eyes look terrible. She’s eating, she’s peeing...all over the back of the animal hospital haha and after all that I had him probe her and she is definitely a she. :]
