 New (first) Carpet Python

My carpet python just got home. He’s (or she...haven’t checked yet) is gorgeous. I’m pretty sure that he is a costal. He is a rescue. One of the guy’s that work at a local pet store (who is well versed in reptiles) said his friend found him just out on the loose at an apartment complex. His friend wasn’t sure what it was but knew it wasn’t native and was some sort of boa or python. He called the police to get animal controls number and guess what the police told him..."Just set it loose in the woods." OMG! I couldn’t believe it. First off that’s illegal and second that’s why there is so many bans coming around now. I live in Indiana so it would have died by winter...but that’s still not cool. So instead of setting it free, he took it to the guy at the pet store since he knew he would know what it was. Our friend at the pet store told me about it since he really doesn’t have the time to care for it, and it needs so special attention due to some scarring on his mouth...most likely from mouth rot (i have to look and see if there is still some and how bad it is, then talk to the vet), so he gave it to us. He’s about 5-6 feet long right now, so i’m guessing he’s still got some growing to go. I’ll get pictures up once he’s settled in and I’ve had time to assess his mouth.

The new guy finally shed and his mouth looks a ton better. It’s definitely an old injury that was still healing. Opened his mouth up today and he looks fine. Tried to feed him but he still wasn’t really interested so gonna try again in a week, so he can settle in a little more. Here’s some pics of him. Tried to do an estimate measurement using my reference item. The item is 7.25in long and from what i could come up with he’s about 5.5ft long. Let me know what you think, and which species of carpet you think he is...i was told jungle but i’m thinking more costal or a mix between the two.
