 A bit urgent

I got a Green Tree Python at Denver’s reptile expo... it’s about one foot long and lives in an exo terra (24" by 18" by 24").
Now, I CANNOT figure out how to get the humidity up. I end up misting the cage several times a day and the humidity doesn’t stay. Maybe it’s because I live in a dry climate (New Mexico), but I’m really struggling with this. I don’t want this snake to die or become unhealthy because, well.. that’d obviously suck. >< So advice ASAP would be very much appreciated.

Right now, the set up has very damp soil in the with some live moss on top. I have three live plants, two hanging from the walls and one on the ground. A small vine wrapped around a larger vine a little higher up and a wooden stick-thing a little bit above the vines.

Keep a damp towel draped across the screened top. That will most likely help the most.

A neonate gtp will usually do better in a much smaller shoebox size enclosure. Don’t try to get too exotic with the caging yet, at least make sure it is eating regularly and has normal sheds before trying to upsize it to a cage that large.

Screen top caging is never recommended for gtps due to difficulty to keep temps and humidity withing ideal range. You will need to block off nearly the enitre top of the exo-terra to get it to retain humidity. Simply having a soggy substrate will not do it for you.

Check out www.finegtps.com for good care sheets for these guys.

while i was living in CO, i used a regular humidifier that you buy at the drugstore for my snakes. it worked pretty well to keep the humidity up.
